Pros

Compensation and Perks used to be good - still decent, but not the level of others in Alphabet. Some smart engineers and scientists still remain. Some links to the Google software infrastructure and training represent good growth opportunities for those whom the potential skill set is useful.

Cons

Management is a complete fiasco, limited responsibility for decisions and product vision. Consistent blame given to junior team members who were often not even aware of a specific decision until they are blamed. Obsession with chasing short term profits (e.g. C19) over fixing technical debt and supporting long term products to help differentiate the company from other health technology start ups. Well documented issues such as those articulated in Business Insider and Science press, for the later the CEO suggested that Verily's medical products do not require in-vivo testing, which is utterly laughable. Inability to accept that any outcome is not extremely good and pressure on junior ICs to not present any item that may suggest a product is not perfect. Leading to inability to build distinct useful products for their customers. Bizarre focus on partnership model often sold to partners on immature products - often under supported and poorly delivered. Promotion opportunities are extremely limited. Despite underlying google infrastructure somehow the faculties, strategy, legal, HR are all under supported and overworked.

Pros

Good employee benefits, flexible work accommodations

Cons

There is a huge and significant lack of cohesion, vision, and understanding of the health care industry by the people in charge. There are a million "ideas" from leadership without a single person who understands how to actually achieve them. They don't want to hear when people with actual experience share their opinions. Their corporate goals are a joke, their management pats themselves on a back after accomplishing nothing, and it's a cesspool of vacuous self-promoters with no actual industry knowledge.

Pros

Pay and shared Google Benefits (those are going away)

Cons

Too many to list individually. I watched as high performers and industry leaders came onboard by the fistful and did everything they could to move the company forward. They were all met with nothing but daily arguments over the smallest of things, stripped funding at all turns, headcount reductions, moving goal posts, ineffective leadership and worst of all a beaten down employee morale. Myself and others kept holding on thinking things would change. I really wanted it to work but sometimes things are just so broken they can never be put back together again. In the end this place broke me in an incredibly short amount of time.
