Pros

Free food I guess, there are some really great people.

Cons

Could not say enough bad things. Snakey managers, verbally abusive people, all around one of the worst place I've ever worked. My manager asked me about my goals for next quarter outside of my current responsibilities. I told them and said I wanted to finish out my current projects and start that project once the new quarter started. Imagine my surprise when the new quarter started and I found out that my manager had stolen my project idea and run with it on their own, presenting it to management as their own idea while utilizing all the documentation I'd created. Then was told I couldn't work on it and implied a layoff. I had to scramble to find a new project before that happened. Absolutely heinous. If you're enjoying working here then you're still drinking the coolaid.

Pros

You can make some amazing friends in the workplace. The perks are as glamorous as people make them be: feasts at EOQs, unlimited PTO, extravagant events and wild parties, beautiful office space, etc. You can advance your career by playing your cards right and joining at the right time. The products themselves are very unique and innovative.

Cons

Sales Culture - if you are not extroverted, decently good-looking, charismatic, and surface-level fake nice, you will not get far in the Sales org. I have social anxiety every time I walk into the office. I am always overanalyzing if I said the wrong thing, wore the wrong shirt with the wrong pants, or if I look "friendly". Yes, they want you to be a strong performer, but they also want you to be likable. This place is mostly personality-based. I would say 30/70 merit and personality fit. I have seen the company keep low-performers because they could fit in and fire better performers because they didn't. Nepotism runs rampant, which is exacerbated by the fact that workplace relationships are allowed in our policy. Some executives and managers are dating their peers or other individual contributors in the other orgs. Managers are BREATHING down your neck to perform well. That's probably because someone from the top is breathing down their necks. Most people are in their 20s, so if you are tenured, this may not be the place for you. Shady Practices - in our recent mid-year feedback review, there was no way to give official upward feedback to managers, only downward reviews. Additionally, backchanneling is a thing here. They don't ask for references. Leaders use their network to ask around about you. Unstainable - They don't strategically plan ahead. Everyone is so bogged down with work that we are taking it day by day. Quotas get passed out in the middle of the quarter. They can't make up their minds. They want to stop growing and invest in the reps, but then switch it up and focus on hiring because turnover is insane and they want to grow quickly. They hire external leaders to gain new perspectives but don't want to change their ways. I've seen tenured leaders at other companies (+10 years) join Verkada and leave within 1 year. If you are an experienced professional, you will know within your first week what you just got yourself into (and look forward to your 1 year so you can leave). Most of the top dogs here built their career at Verkada and they don't know anything else. They only know the "Verkada" way, and that is to do now and think later. Honestly, I think this company is a cash cow for the owners. We are meant to be sold off to a larger company with the way we are run. Career Advancement - They used to sell the dream of fast-tracking your career here. That is not the reality anymore. The company is so large now that you may not advance as quickly as they say. Be aware that they also sell others on the dream and there are limited spots. If you don't get a spot, don't worry though. Turnover is high and another spot may open up soon.

Pros

The people who work here are the only redeeming quality about the company. The product is great.

Cons

Please read every single one-star review about this place. I sure wish I had. When you're interviewing, they fly you out to their fancy office laden with food and amenities in every corner to dazzle you with this gleaming farce of success. Like many others, I felt like this job was what I had been looking for all along. I uprooted my life for this job, lured by their promises of hitting high quotas - they boasted an average rep attainment of 105% in their first 3 quarters . But that was just nonsense. In reality, only 1 out of 50 in my division actually hit those targets in a quarter, and it was only because they got lucky with big deals that the reps before them slaved on for months before they got canned. And the salary? It's a joke. We're talking a base of $55,000 to $75,000, which is way below what you need to survive in the Bay Area. And those big numbers they dangle for On-Target Earnings (OTE), like $120,000 to $160,000? Keep dreaming. "You get equity," they say. They conveniently don't mention that it only starts vesting after a year, which, by the way, is 4 months longer than the average employee's lifespan at the company. They know you're not going to make it that far, so they hold the equity away from you to get away from actually giving you any. It's diabolical. They just want someone to manage the territory until they fire them and bring in someone who will do the job for even less pay. Ramp up, Rinse and Repeat. They give sales reps like 500-1000 RSUs over 4 years ($2k to $4k) while they give their engineers like 40,000-50,000 RSUs ($120k-$200k). I've seen the contract letters. If you're handling an East Coast territory, they expect you at the office by 5 or 6 AM. It's like working in a call center or sweatshop, where you're scrambling to build your pipeline and manage all your projects all on your own. The deceit they show towards employees, customers, and shareholders is just outrageous. It's even worse if you're new to the job market – they exploit that inexperience. You see it with the poor new grad BDRs, working insane 80-hour weeks, making calls and cramming for quizzes, just trying to get ahead on the CHANCE that they can get promoted (they have to reinterview after 4 months or they get fired). And the real blow? They set the same ridiculous quotas for reps in completely different markets, like Arkansas and New York. It's clear they don't care about setting you up for success. This company is a textbook example of the dark side of capitalism. My advice? Stay away from this place. Don't even work in other departments or roles for this company. Dishonest employers don't deserve honest and hardworking employees. I honestly would've been better off jobless (I wish I avoided this entire headache), but now I'm stuck paying $2,500 a month to live in a closet in San Francisco, all because I fell for their line about making big money.
