Pros

Chance to work with a variety of equipment, and not be pigeon-holed into one narrow area. Technical staff are usually skilled, easy to get along with, and try to help the students when they can; they are the reason anything actually is accomplished.

Cons

Stress. There is intense pressure to do "more, more, more." Extreme under-staffing & high turnover rates. Little chance for career advancement. Ironically, lack of commitment to professional education. Bureaucracy.

the students were looking for opportunity in life and were the only bright spot in this dump.

Cons

Complete waste of taxpayer dollars and squandering of opportunities to lower student tuition because the administration and some faculty are self serving. They do things without measuring results including paying lots of consultants to run their mouths and deliver nothing.

Pros

There are many nice people here, and the mission is valuable. The starting pay tends to be decent (but there is little opportunity for growth).

Cons

Ineffective, inauthentic leadership. Poor communication throughout the organization, veering into cagey. Very old-fashioned, in terms of general atmosphere and resistance to modern office niceties like relaxed dress code and telecommuting. Talented young people rarely stay here more than a year. The quality of HR is a literal joke among employees.
