Great engineering team, abysmal leadership

Pros

* Engineers are equally challenged and supported * A strong culture of learning and growth * Great engineering managers who actually care about your happiness and career

Cons

* There has been a pervasive feeling that the company has no idea what it is doing * Outside consultants were hired to form some semblance of direction and strategy but this resulted in heavy layoffs and questionable company goals * Upper management is completely tone-deaf and rarely (if ever) genuine or transparent

Incredibly Dense Leadership Spoils Good Product and Cause

Pros

- There are opportunities here to do and learn a lot, because you will be expected to do a lot. - There are wonderful, hard-working people in the organization. They just aren't in upper management.

Cons

- Audacity to display our glassdoor rating and boast about how great it is to work here during an all-hands meeting, one month after laying off 25% of the company. Why talk about glassdoor ratings? Do we expect to start hiring again? - Up until this point, roadmap and strategy has been unclear. We're constantly pivoting instead of supporting existing products. - Misleading "mission". At one point, our goal was to empower business AND individuals with the right to privacy. In my opinion, this changed when the Personal Privacy (Virtru for individuals) page was removed from the website.

* Great culture + Mission * Seems to care about employees' well-being * The best manager I have had and a good culture of 1:1s * Good work-life balance, was told "we don't need a reason for you to work from home"

Cons

* No 401k match * Huge layoffs in Sept 2019 - I've heard 20% * Slightly disorganized in terms of development process, but was making plans to get better.
