Pros
- The autonomy and independence. There’s an innate trust that permeates the company culture — you get your work done, and you are golden.
- The people are incredible. Working for a tech company can be nerve wracking knowing you’re surrounded by brilliance, but the folks here are all kind and I have never been made to feel like I’m naive or less-than despite not having a technical background.
- You learn a ton. Virtru is a fast-paced, relatively small company. Even if you’re experienced, you will likely learn new skills and be given new tasks you need to learn to do on your own. It’s an incredible space for growth and development.
- You are encouraged to grow and keep getting better at what you do, and you’re given the opportunity to do so.
- HR and People Operations really seem to care about you. Not just as an employee, but as a person. I feel like I am heard as an employee and fostered as an individual.
- The Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DE&I) effort has been tangible. Results can be slow to come to fruition at times, but that’s natural. Change doesn't happen overnight. Gaps are being recognized and actively addressed, and issues such as a lack of diversity at the top will take a long time to solve. But the effort is real, and it’s not just lip service.
- Flexibility. You are encouraged to do what is best for you and to advocate for yourself here.
- Flexible PTO policy. At Virtru, work doesn’t always come first. Management recognizes that we are human beings with personal lives and other priorities.
- Processes are ever changing. This sounds like a con, but it’s actually a huge pro. Management and HR take initiative and listen when improvements need to be made, and if change is possible, they try hard to make it.
- Transparency regarding company direction, successes, and failures (when applicable) in the past year and a half has been much improved. Not perfect, but the effort is tangible.
- Compensation is more than fair.
Cons
- Some big decisions can take time to get approval, which can be frustrating.
- Some directional flip-flopping goes on frequently, especially in engineering. Virtru is an agile environment, which is a huge plus, but it can still take a toll on folks.
