Brilliant, passionate people, still figuring out how to become a technology company
Pros
* Genuinely unique, high quality products. Lots of exciting technology and opportunities you'd normally have to go to an enormous company to get. * Diverse workplace. Racial and cultural diversity company-wide is high, tech team actually has lots of women on it. Not a standard techie culture -- way more pleasant. * People are passionate and invested in their work. The company is actually pretty small, but takes on a lot of big projects, and this attracts brilliant people. * New CEO is very reasonable, and has quickly taken steps to address some of the major issues holding the company back. * Profitable company (which is rare in publishing) that actually gives bonuses and has resources to expand.
Cons
* Privately owned company that will always be somewhat beholden to the whims of the owner. * Struggling to integrate old-school publishing culture with modern tech needs.
