Pros

Treats on the major Holidays

Cons

Employees have to walk thru long dank back ways and up numerous sets of steps to access store. It is dangerous and you are tired before you start work. You are scheduled to come in 2-3 hrs before store opening to handle massive amounts of freight off the trucks and stock your own supplies from the basement.

Pros

Hours, fellow co-workers on floor

Cons

A big storm came through the other day and less than 10 stores in our mall refused to close early so their employees could get home safely. Von Maur refused to close early because we were only at a level 2. Very scary and dangerous drive home. Thank you for caring. I bet Mr. Von Maur was in his mansion safe and sound.

Pros

Descent pay - when you aren't forced to take option time. Option time is "offered" to employees when management views the work flow to be slow. Due to the nature of my position, I had to wear a dress or skirt, tights or hose and dress shoes. During slow time, I was offered to either take option time (time off with no pay) or work in the warehouse - standing for long periods of time, kneeling, bending and lifting heavy bins off of a conveyor belt. We were not allowed to change into jeans like the other warehouse workers. Did meet some very nice people who worked at Von Maur Ecommerce. Not in management, though. Management is not allowed to socialize in any way with non-management workers. No sitting together at lunch. No inviting them to parties or events, no "friending" them on facebook. No contact outside of the work environment or outside of the context of the Manager-Employee model.

Cons

Where do I even start? Breaks were withheld when several people quit Von Maur Ecommerce, leaving the department short handed. Rather than offer overtime, management took away the morning and afternoon breaks until the department caught up on their work load. Ageism was abundantly clear. When I inquired about the management training program, I was told my bachelor's degree was too old. The time clocks were annoying, dress code is ridiculous and the half hour lunch hour did not leave enough time to leave the grounds. Could not have visitors during the lunch half hour either. Very isolated environment. Somewhat like a prison.
