Pros

One weekend off a month Commission Holidays off Friendly coworkers

Cons

This place is filled with drama, starting from the managers and trickled down They do not care for employee safety or health No water. No sitting down. This place honestly sucks. If someone returns something from online, you’d think that it wouldn’t effect your commission because you didn’t touch the items.WRONG! It gets taken out of everyone in the corresponding departments checks. And the company just benefits from selling it. I’ve only known 2 really nice managers and they’ve left the company. And by left the company, I mean they were asked to resign. And they were GREAT managers and store managers. It seems Von Maur only likes rude, 20 something year old, bimbo managers who will do nothing but sit and gossip with DMs

Pros

Time and half on sundays No holidays One weekend off a month Pays higher than minimum wage Shoes makes 10% commission (you WILL make more money here than any other retail job). Promotes only from within, so advancement is easy if you want to advance. The customers are typically very nice and cooperative and easy enough to handle. You get $10 if you get a customer compliment. If you want more hours, they will give them to you. Benefits (Heath, dental, + life insurance)

Cons

Dress code is old fashioned Policies + procedures also super old fashioned Can't request days off months in advance unless you have vacation time 5 sick days a year You need to maintain 15 hours (part-time) or 35 hours (full-time). You won't be able to request a day off if you will fall below that mark. You have to have "vacation time" built up before you can request it off and not have it count against you as well. They do not trust the associates to do their jobs, management is definitely always watching you. You have monthly reviews to see your sales numbers and stats, so you're constantly worried about your performance. You have to do 1 "contact" (following up with customers either by phone or writing them a letter) for every 8 hours you work, which is not only tiresome but useless as it makes most people not want to come back, because they have the store constantly calling them and reaching out to them. You have to maintain a "follow-up book" of customers as well, where you take their information and call them when new styles of their selected brands come in. Also very bothersome, and difficult to find people who want to even commit to that. My sales have been through the roof (125%+ above goal) since I started (8mos ago), but I have been penalized twice already for not upholding their other stupid customer service standards. Everyone who works there is like 35+, so if you're young, expect to be babied.

Pros

Pay, 2 weekends off per month, safe/clean/organized company/work environment.

Cons

Customers MAJORLY ABUSE the return policy and Von Maur allows it, racist and sexist company, absolutely blatant favorites that management had (if you drank and partied a lot or had been with the store for a long time you were a favorite of the management team. How fake the staff is very creepy, staff act like robots with no personality and working there I felt as if I lost my personality. They try to form you into a “stepford wives” persona almost. This company is extremely racist. I work with this company for almost two years and there was not a single black person employed during this time. I find it hard to believe that the amount of black individuals who applied for a general sales associate position were lacking of the experience...(no experience is needed). Also witnessed countless times when black individuals would walk into the store and would be harassed and stalked by sales associates because the customer “looked suspicious.” Associates would even alert the loss prevention manager to make sure the “cameras were facing the suspicious customers.” I have many stories where I have experience racism in the location I worked which played a huge role in my decision to look for employment elsewhere. The company is also sexist. The only men that are generally hired are white, flamboyant men. We only had a total of 2 men employed during my time of employment. Women are not allowed to wear pants. Which is extremely sexist. Men can only wear full suits. Sexist. Personally, I was turned off by the company. I have several other negative experiences which I do not care to mention.
