Pros

Closed on major holidays, training

Cons

Executive management, no work/personal life balance, work sometimes 11 days straight to have a day off, managers tell you one thing on a policy then change their mind in front of customers, store manager stalks your Facebook account and then calls you into their office to tell you that you can't be friends with people you work with everyday outside of work, if you are one minute late you are marked as tardy, executive managers pick favorites, they love to give written warnings, it's not a matter of if you will be written up for something, it's when.. It will eventually happen, they are quick to promote but quick to demote/terminate, dress code: unloading the truck in a full suit or skirt and panty hose, once a year inspection(hands and knees cleaning in dress clothes), ridiculous employee policy's, crazy shifts(work 12-9 then 7-4 the next day), hostile/cult-like work environment, micro managing.

Pros

Never there past 10pm, time and 1/2 on Sundays, two weekends off a month if you're full time and have been there over a year, good benefits, paid holidays. My store: one amazing Executive Manager.

Cons

Outdated technology. Hire a professional IT company and stop trying to do it in house. Seriously, they are offline all the time. Also, did the Von Maurs buy an IBM factory back in the 70s? How do they have so many of these outdated registers? Only two handheld scanners for the entire store? Executive managers not having e-mail or computers? Also, if you're going to work for Von Maur, remember these guidelines: Don't have a normal human personality (they call us Von Martians for a reason.) Don't disagree with anything that management says. In fact, just don't have any opinions. Don't talk about your "real life" Smile, nod, keep your head down, and don't let them see the whites of your eyes.

Pros

When I first started, I loved the environment as well as the job. But it's been almost a year now and I can't stand that place. People don't let the love piano and beautiful decor fool you. This company will care nothing about you .... But back to the positives Time and a half on Sunday Schedule posted a month ahead of time Holidays off

Cons

Management does nothing to actually resolve problems. Customer is always right even at the expense of the employee. Search as returns without receipts or tags / obviously worn Job security .... They're always watching and you could be gone at any moment for petty reasons... If you upset the wrong person. Micromanagement. Unrealistic sales goals with a fully stocked staff. Associates steal sales and commission from others mean while management does nothing but applaud those who are meeting goal. It doesn't matter how you meet it
