Pros

Can move up quickly compared to other companies

Cons

Dress code is ridiculous for women! Hosiery, covered toe shoes, can't show shoulders, no tattoos visible and more! Not treated fairly unless you are management. Management had their own table at lunch and wouldn't talk to you. They are stuck in their old ways and don't want to adapt to today. Extremely high turn-over..even asked us during our corporate visit on how we can improve that. Overall, not the family oriented company they claim to be.

Pros

Great place to start working if have you have no experience and want to get into corporate retail, able to move up in company quickly, manageable work load in the corporate office

Cons

Very outdated values and rules, no flexibility for corporate employees such as leaving early, working from home, wearing pants in bad weather, do not like being questioned about processes or rules, unable to have food or drinks (including water) at your desk or any personal items in your office makes a very uncomfortable work environment, reports and all systems are outdated and very little desire to improve old systems, promote people without management skills which makes it difficult to learn or grow in positions

Pros

Met some nice people but they're difficult to come by Get applicable experience to use other places Pay for relocation

Cons

Management offers no direction Company not as open to change will proudly say "we are who we are" Company not appealing to young people Underpaid for the work performed & it's frowned upon if you question your increases or lack thereof Company prides themselves on promoting within & that there are always opportunities but it's because the turnover rate is high No one has clear answers Not a diverse work place (gender, race, ethnicity) If you don't adapt to the "Von Maur Attitude" there's a target on your back If you challenge or question something that they feel you should just smile & nod at you become a target People afraid to stand up for what is right in fear of being fired Get away with things that would not be ok if they weren't a privately held company No true values outside of "the customer is always right" Treat customers better than employees Updated rules are not in writing which allows them to make them up as they go Promotions are not usually performance based but instead who they like the most or who's a better "fit" People who claim to "love" the company are easily influenced or lying
