Pros

That I work for you, and the countless other employees that work their butts off.

Where do I start? When I first started with this employer, I thought that I had stumbled upon the best company ever. Not quite. Von Maur has the potential but they don't really care. I refuse to believe that this company is in business to make money. There is blatant AGEISM, SEXISM and RACISM in this company. Contrary to what they want their employees to believe and what they teach us in EEOC training, this company is all lies. There is no loyalty and appreciation to their employees all. They encourage an atmosphere of pettyness and retaliation, contrary to the propaganda they want you to believe. They really think we are stupid and we can't see past the smokescreen. Please, don't insult my intelligence. They don't want you to be friends with your coworkers because they say it will encourage "favoritism" yet they're promotion process is based solely on favoritism, nothing more nothing less. You think they would appreciate all your handwork when you have to carry the burden of their perpetually understaffed store and cover three departments simultaneously or when you as a department manger have no staff for over six months and you run your department by yourself. Nope. They don't care. Soul less human beings! They will replace you in a heart beat. When you are on top they will love you and seek every promotion for you but you better stay at the top or else they drop you with no hesitation! D

Pros

Clean stores Decent merchandise selections with a few high end brands Time and a half on Sunday Loyal customers No crazy holiday hours

Cons

Inexperienced management Archaic and stiff dress code Lack of efficient technology Micro managing and distrustful of employees There are lots of "hidden rules" that you are unaware of until you are called out and it's too late to find a solution A cult like atmosphere Horrible scheduling system Department Managers have no real authority to run and lead their respective departments The compensation is not all it's cracked up to be...1 percent commission...come on! That's nothing compared to what Nordstrom pays it's employees. Lack of diversity in upper management Managers get promoted too quickly and they haven't really gained enough experience in their trade This company tries to copy cat Nordstrom and sorry it doesn't cut it! Lack of advertising High turnover and having to cover other departments While going thru an actual interview or training process if you call it that, HR had to read verbatim from a book to conduct an interview and the training was done kind of the same way. Need I say more??? There are too many other cons to mention!
