Pros

No pros because I only worked there less than 90 days got my counters numbers up 120% FOR THE YR. And still not given an ounce of respect after I gave my new job a two weeks notice of when I can start working in convince to von maur.

Cons

I have worked for Nordstrom, Sephora and even freelanced at Macys before and no one has ever treated me the way the Von Maur Managers did. They take being petty to the next level, didnt let me finish my two weeks of work and made it seemed like I quit so they can save themselves the work of doing paperwork or give me unemployment. MICROMANAGING AND LOVE BELITTLE THEIR EMPLOYEES. NOT LGBTQ FRIENDLY VERY OUTDATED POLICIES. VERY STRICT FOR NO REASON WHEN THERE IS BARELY ANYONE TO SELL TO IN THE STORE. IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR PETTY MICROMANAGING MANAGEMENT WHO WILL MARK YOU LATE EVEN FOR 1 MINUTE. Good luck, they literally suck the life out of every fun or little thing you might find joy in. And they are freedy with giving cosmetics team gratis they rather let the products rot and expire in the back then let the hard working ladies get something nice to take home.

Toxic work environment

Pros

They hire women right out of college to become buyers They will hire someone without a degree to become a buyer - no college at all Hybrid work environment after being in your position for 1 year. Th & F can work from home. Although there are strict stipulations of course

Cons

They are: -controlling -play mind games. They will try to make your life harder and “make you quit” if they don’t think you fit inside the “Von Maur Box” -expect you to not have a life outside of work -expect you to work long hours & weekends -low pay compared to other buying jobs -it’s nice they take young women right out to college to become buyers but they take advantage of the fact you’ve never had a job before and you might not know your worth yet as an employee and expect you to not have your own opinions and to just comply to everything they say -as buyers they make you work in the warehouse as they don’t have enough staff due to covid and low pay for the warehouse staff -there’s a lot of extra work outside of your normal job duties they make you do which leads to having to work long extra hours and weekends -they are strict on everything, a lot of red tape. This is Iowa - republicans -never saw Jim Von Maur in the office while working at corporate for years -strict dress code. Women were able to start wearing pants in 2019 (yay) but only specific black pants approved by your manager -not allowed to wear “trendy” clothes. No headbands, accessories, etc… -no coffee/food at your desk. You can only have water in a clear cup. No fruit in water. -although the executives have a coffee machine and merchandising can smell the coffee at their desks -no personal belongings at your desk -barely any diversity -they are not inclusive if you have a medical condition -hybrid work schedule: not allowed to work remotely anywhere but your home. This rules fluctuates depending on your manager which can be very annoying. They will threaten to take away your hybrid schedule if you complain or ask questions about anything. They don’t want to help you, just control you. They will take it away without any warning in some cases to make a point. -they have managers with extensive history’s of toxic behavior from exit interviews but they choose to do nothing about it because “they like the fear in the office” and “if makes people more grateful to not be in those positions, under that management “ they usually put people in these positions when they want to test them. Will you stay and take the treatment or quit? Only work here if you have no other options of getting buying experience. Don’t talk about your personal life, they will use it against you. Keep quit and just smile. You can try to be strong and ask questions about the work environment/how you’re being treated but know it’s going to bite you in the butt.

Pros

Nice decorations at Christmas Fair selection of quality merchandise

Cons

Long hours Pay varied depending on sales/what department you worked Insufficient breaks Dishonest, cliquey management Fired over a customer complaint that was inaccurate and management made no effort to verify the claims that were made. Unbelievable dishonesty and fake excuses from the managers throughout the time I worked there. Managers pick favorites and gossip about employees. Low retention.
