They are: -controlling -play mind games. They will try to make your life harder and “make you quit” if they don’t think you fit inside the “Von Maur Box” -expect you to not have a life outside of work -expect you to work long hours & weekends -low pay compared to other buying jobs -it’s nice they take young women right out to college to become buyers but they take advantage of the fact you’ve never had a job before and you might not know your worth yet as an employee and expect you to not have your own opinions and to just comply to everything they say -as buyers they make you work in the warehouse as they don’t have enough staff due to covid and low pay for the warehouse staff -there’s a lot of extra work outside of your normal job duties they make you do which leads to having to work long extra hours and weekends -they are strict on everything, a lot of red tape. This is Iowa - republicans -never saw Jim Von Maur in the office while working at corporate for years -strict dress code. Women were able to start wearing pants in 2019 (yay) but only specific black pants approved by your manager -not allowed to wear “trendy” clothes. No headbands, accessories, etc… -no coffee/food at your desk. You can only have water in a clear cup. No fruit in water. -although the executives have a coffee machine and merchandising can smell the coffee at their desks -no personal belongings at your desk -barely any diversity -they are not inclusive if you have a medical condition -hybrid work schedule: not allowed to work remotely anywhere but your home. This rules fluctuates depending on your manager which can be very annoying. They will threaten to take away your hybrid schedule if you complain or ask questions about anything. They don’t want to help you, just control you. They will take it away without any warning in some cases to make a point. -they have managers with extensive history’s of toxic behavior from exit interviews but they choose to do nothing about it because “they like the fear in the office” and “if makes people more grateful to not be in those positions, under that management “ they usually put people in these positions when they want to test them. Will you stay and take the treatment or quit? Only work here if you have no other options of getting buying experience. Don’t talk about your personal life, they will use it against you. Keep quit and just smile. You can try to be strong and ask questions about the work environment/how you’re being treated but know it’s going to bite you in the butt.
