Pros

Clean work environment Nice brands and clothing Ability to sell across multiple departments Customers are incredibly kind and love advice Ability to be able to move merchandise freely and be creative with your department

Cons

I promise that this company is not for you. It's not for anyone. You can never, ever please management. You have to walk on egg shells around management otherwise they don't feel that you are following the "Von Maur Way". No matter how great of a selling week you have, or how many Von Maur credit cards you open, they are incredibly quick to jump on the slightest slip-up and reprimand you. The work environment is entirely unhealthy and makes you sick to your stomach to even step in the door because you might have to face management for the tiniest mistake or comment. Be careful what you say because they are watching you either through themselves, through cameras, or through other "favorited" associates they have watching you. There is no possible way this company has their employee's best interests in mind. They don't coach you on the sales floor, they don't help you with problems, they just slap you on the wrist and force you back out there so they can wait for the moment they see you fail next. Think about it, if you have applied with this company and have heard back from them so quickly like the other reviewers have mentioned, there is a reason for that. It's not because they are highly interested in you, it is because the employee turnover is so high that they need the employes to just keep coming in the door since they treat the employees they miraculously have so darn horrible. I have worked retail all my life including department stores like this, so the high end appearance and brand names drew me to apply at this company. After a mere three weeks at this company, I could tell that something was wrong with this place and most importantly management. Please do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place, your ego will be crushed, you will gain no experience, and you will find yourself just looking for the next job and hoping that Von Maur doesn't ruin your life. I know the job market is slow and the economy is not the best but you do not want to put yourself through this horrible hell they call "The Von Maur Way".

Pros

-Pay was okay compared to other retail stores -Closed on all major holidays -Time and a half on Sundays -Insurance benefits -Some great co-workers (others were like picked off the street or something)

Cons

-Long hours/strange shifts like one day you could be 8-5, next day 11:30-8:30, then back at 7am the following day -TESS- the scheduling system who made the sched. & ppl. will work 8,9,10 days in a row -Inexperienced management straight from college who think they are the greatest when in reality, their time will come and they will be canned like the rest. -Some great customers, but MOST are there every other day looking at the sales rounders because they're cheap and want to look like they are "rich" w/ their brand name clothes -Management says they promote from within but as of late, they've been hiring from outside the company which brings low morale to employees who have been there and want to move up. -Women have to wear skirts w/ pantyhose which are very uncomfortable
