      Fantastic retailer with family values still in-tact!

      Pros

      1. Benefits and the recognition of Holidays are both top notch. Family is first with them, so as long as the Von Maur Family runs the company, I can't imagine them ever opening on Holidays or making employees work till midnight. 2. If a person wants to get on the fast-track with the company, they will move them up the ladder quickly. 3.The store is beautiful and the merchandise is high quality. I was proud to tell people I worked there.

      Cons

      (Relating to the pros above:) 1. Part time workers are not offered a Benefits Package. Also, there is a one year wait for full time employees. 2. In an effort to push people up the ladder, many managers are far far less knowledgeable about products and merchandise than the employees. That can lead to an uncomfortable environment. 3. There is absolutely no flexibility when it comes to clocking in. If the clock turns to the next minute while you are punching in, you are late. Snow storm, flat tire, sick kid - there are no excuses, and you can get fired for too many lates or earlies.

      Pros

      The benefits are great and so is the schedule. They also have a lot of career growth opportunities. The management team and veteran associates are extremely nice and helpful. They offer great product selections in all departments too. The best part about working for this company is how great the customers are! They are very friendly and loyal. Von Maur also has a great return policy and an interest free charge card and free standard shipping from their customers who purchase directly from the store locations. They also offer complimentary gift wrap.

      Cons

      Dress Code is overly strict/out dated. Entry level salary is low and they are also short staffed on the sales floor and you are pulled to various other departments constantly making it hard to focus on building your knowledge of your department and build relationships with customers in your department.
