Pros
Good experience in a fast paced consumer good retail environment. A lot can vary depending on the store management. I worked in two stores during my time with the company. One had fantastic management, and the other was just ok.
Cons
Despite being a union-represented position in California, starting pay is pretty low. I was in high school for a good chunk of the time that I worked for Vons, and it was always a struggle to see the union take ~$15/week from my 14 hour a week paycheck for benefits I didn't want or need as a high school student. I probably just would have preferred to have get payed for my two hours of work instead of being forced to give it to an organization whose services I didn't need or want. Upward mobility and hours all really depend on the individual store. I worked for Vons through some of my college career and at one store (when school was out) I could never get enough hours ( the norm was ~15-25/ week). At the other store (when school was in session) I would consistently get scheduled around 40/ week when we agreed on less than 26/ week up front. Ultimately, I ended up having to quit because I could not work 40 hours a week, take 16 units, and work part time on-campus.
