Pros

Good benefits package Good lower level employees Good compensation (salary)

Cons

Promotions from within, especially women, is sorely lacking. Good ole' boy system still a major factor in day to day business. Upper and lower management decisions remain very secretive affecting day to day operations particularly for people who aspire to climb the "corporate ladder". Overworked lower level employees, especially since round two of lay-offs. Sales staff remains allowed to run amok and account to no one for their time or dealings.

Pros

Good benefits and good working conditions. They are very understanding about personal/medical situations that might affect attendance. The company is very conservative, but they don't make a lot of mistakes, either. Acquisitions, changes in business are well thought out.

Cons

It is had to advance one's career at Vulcan, There is a great deal of nepotism in management, and lots of poor mid-level managers. If you don't get a promotion early in your career you probably won't get one at all. One particular department was so bad they couldn't fill jobs internally. Yet the manager was allowed to sustain a hostile work environment despite repeated complaints from subordinates.
