Pros

The people are great. The benefit to working at Disney Streaming is having the name on your resume and working in an industry that has been booming for the last few years. Plus, the occasional excitement when you tell someone that you work at Disney.

Cons

Disney relies on the magic of their name to bring top talent through their revolving door. They have no interest in retaining talent, regardless of strong performance. Pay is LOW and if you think you can come in and move up in the organization, be prepared to work hard for several years before that is even a consideration. Both leadership and HR could care less about their employees though they sometimes go through the motions of “listening” but never actioning on any feedback. We had a very high turnover rate in our segment once people realized things would not change for the better. It’s a top down culture where you have little to no say in the initiatives or decisions. Due to Disney’s secrecy, work was often dropped on teams with little notice. There is endless amounts of red tape which stifles creativity and can be excruciatingly frustrating. Perks are non-existent besides the park passes which are increasingly difficult to book with blackout dates and various stipulations. The magic fades quite quickly when you devote late nights to work and eventually realize you are disposable to them.

Pros

People are nice, you rarely meet aggressive individuals. Job security, it's extremely difficult for you to be laid off as a result of your performance.

Cons

I worked at Disney Streaming Services (DSS) expecting the best combination of both startup and corporate. Challenging work, great career potential, along with career stability. DSS does have the best of both worlds ... for Disney. Senior management expects people to move at breakneck speed while ignoring issues such as red tapes, lack of transparency, and politics to progress. Most people stayed during the shutdown due to lack of job opportunities, but as the economy opens up, individuals across all levels and departments are leaving on a weekly basis. In terms of data, there is also a difference in expectation between stakeholders and the data org. Stakeholders and senior execs see data analytics primarily as a reporting team / data support center, whereas analytic leaders want equal partnership and influence decision making. This gap in expectations has led to a lot of unhappiness (and sometimes delusion). Many great employees that were hired from FB, Netflix etc, have left, leaving behind those from consulting / non-tech backgrounds.

Pros

You get to "work" on some of the best film IP there is. Marvel, Lucas, Disney Animaion - all top notch. The commissary on the lot is ok - but, it's cheap. There is a Starbucks on the lot as well. Disney offers ok benefits. I have had WAY better medical options at smaller companies before. 401(k) w/ company matching. Lower level employees don't get stock or wellness perks. You get the occasional screening and swag - but, anyone over 30 shouldn't be excited over a Mickey plush toy. So like, there's that.

Cons

Where to start? Room for growth is literally non-existant. They foster a culture of "move out to move up". Meaning.. if you want a promotion.. you'll have to leave the company to "gain experience" and then come back in a different capacity. As for the free park pass - they block out virtually every weekend due to revenue guests complaining about park crowds. So, if you want to actually enjoy the park - you'd have to call in sick on a random Tuesday. Yet, your Silver Pass is included in your "total rewards package" so, technically, you still pay for it. Complacency is also a huge issue. It should really be studied. People are willing to go years without a promotion, being reconginsed, no raises (just 3% for cost of living) all to say they work for Disney. TBH, I don't get it. HR knows they have the power of the brand on their side and that they have someone else waiting in the wings. They constantly hire from outside the company as opposed to looking within. Compensation is rigged. Much like the US economy - everything goes to the top. Executives get 6 figure bonuses at the end of the year, while lower level employees are often told by their leaders they had to "fight" to get them a 3% increase. We got told to cut back on ordering office supplies a few days after we received an email notifiying us that another film crossed the 1B box office line. Comical, much? They rolled out a "flex" working policy. But, you literally get shamed like Cersei Lannister if you even think about using it.
