Pros

Excellent Pay opportunity in a summer college program for college students wishing to earn money.

Cons

The production management at the Liberty, MO plant seems to delight in the abuse (literally) of employees not protected by a labor agreement. Violent and destructive to company property is not an unlikely scenario when dealing with this man. The mid-level average Joe with a Napoleon Complex seems to take great delight in abusing the educated, causing them to quit or terminating them at the drop of a hat without determining facts or using any level of reasonableness in his decision making.

Company is thriving, but it's hell to work there.

Pros

Pay is best around for people who don't have degrees. Actually can live a decent life. That doesn't mean I agree with the rate. It needs to be better yet.

Cons

They took the double time away. No incentive or compensation to work the hours they demand. 24/7 operation, forced overtime up to 16 hr days for 3 days, then 12 hrs on 4th day and 16 hrs for the next 3 days. Force in early, and force out late. They own you 20 hrs a day, everyday. No scheduled breaks, no scheduled lunch. If you're not running, you don't break until you are running. Eat while you work. Be careful what you wish for when you think you want a new GM. They only get worse. You work your butt off only to line their pockets. You are expendable. It's their way or you hit the road. HR is all company, doesn't care about production employees. They fire Foreman, because they're not doing their job if they're not writing someone up. Tense people, low morale. A lot of Co-workers are hateful, spiteful, and vindictive. Hate the job, but appreciate it at the same time. Hard to leave the pay check.

Good starting job, but...

Pros

Work-life balance, good salary, beautiful labs for R&D This was a starting job for me, so at the time I had nothing to compare it to. What was good about it was the compensation (good, not great), the experience, and the people I worked with. Is paperboard sexy and fun? No, but it provides jobs. If you work in Richmond the facilities are awesome; gym, cafeteria, and state of the art labs for R&D.

Cons

Office culture, time-off policies What was not so great was the glaring fact that this is a public company; the perception of upper management is that they value stock price far greater than employees. The culture survey really illuminated that (it wasn't good). It's an old, conservative company run by old men (don't be surprised around November when they ask everyone to vote "with the company's interests in mind"). The culture is really the worst thing; talk to the employees who have been there 20+ years and you'll understand. The vacation policy is lousy; 2 weeks until you're there 5 years. Then oh boy an extra 5 days! What really irritated me though was getting laid off after years of stellar performance. And even worse were friends getting laid off that had put in over 10 years with the company! Cool, get rid of the guy who has had solid performance and is 60 years old. What was the need for layoffs after hiring on a large amount of people? Stock price. The most important thing for the leaders of the company. Don't EVER think they will value their employees more than that.
