Desperate times call for desperate measures

Pros

Nice people in my group, relaxed work environment, decent pay.

Cons

I heard the rumors but I had no idea it was this bad. In the last year, I’ve witnessed the hiring, firing, and quitting of more people than I have in the last 3 years combined. We’ve all heard the whispers about problems finding and keeping people and our poor corporate culture, but to stoop this low, this company has got to be desperate. I get the whole employee referral program and how we benefit by getting money if our referrals are hired, but holding a contest and sending emails pleading with us to post 5 star reviews on Glassdoor, has it gotten that bad? Are employer solicited reviews allowed on Glassdoor? And why include a link to Glassdoor.com in the email, are we being tracked? Where is the integrity in this? I don't know what to think about this place anymore, but this definitely does not instill confidence. “Employee Referral Program and Referral Bonus Event SPREAD THE WORD: WESTERN ALLIANCE IS A GREAT PLACE TO WORK! Western Alliance Bank Response

Thanks for your important feedback and for raising these issues. We hope you will consider sharing your concerns with your manager or with HR so we can better understand your thinking and respond to you directly. We believe inviting people to share their work stories with Glassdoor and inviting referrals for new employees are good practices for any company. Many people – including many long-term employees – are building rewarding careers and finding plentiful opportunity at Western Alliance. Western Alliance has been growing quickly -- some of its work culture is still a work in progress – and your feedback is helpful as we build a positive, customer-focused banking business where people feel motivated and rewarded. It is true that not every company environment is a fit for everyone, but we would very much like the opportunity to connect with you regarding your concerns and look for ways to improve your work experience at Western Alliance.

You will regret accepting an offer

Pros

Coworkers are mostly pleasant

Cons

Just the most misguided dysfunctional place you could possibly ever imagine. Awful benefits. WAB treats employees like garbage. You're not allowed to have work life balance and management will belittle you and play favorites. An email came out saying they were targeting 3.5% merit/equity increases for the 2016 annual employee reviews which was followed by a correction email that came out minutes later saying they were targeting 2.5%. You can tell yourself it was a harmless typo but anyone who had been at the bank for longer than 2 weeks would tell you the owner crunched the numbers and decided he'd rather keep an extra ~$900,000, buy himself a jet, and allow the discontent to fester.

Internal Audit/Enterprise Risk Management

Pros

I learned to research executives prior to accepting an offer.

Cons

This is a highly volatile bank. I had no business working there based on my resume. The executives are a joke, namely the CRO and CFO while I was there (I'm sure it's the same considering their pasts/skill sets). Oversight is nonexistent and there is no strategic vision for the company. The regulators wanted qualified individuals to facilitate oversight and leadership did not understand the fallout of hiring high quality auditors. The big 4 is not interested in external audit or co-sourcing internal audit based on reputation and their propensity to turn a blind eye to large issues. McGladery is under-equipped to be issuing an opinion. If you choose to accept a job and are a CPA make sure you have a good lawyer to advise you when you find large issues that the audit committee ignores. Also, females beware.
