Good pay, low moral and lots of stress

Pros

A lot of great people worked extremely hard to build a successful bank that really cares about its customers. Salaries are competitive and the bonus structure allows for every employee to get a bonus when the bank achieves its goals overall.

Cons

Morale has suffered for a long time. There have been frequent changes in management, with negative results. Newly hired managers are allowed to insult and degrade the people that have been around awhile, and that have helped shaped the bank to be one of the most successful banks in the nation. They are often also often given too much power too soon and poor decisions have created a lot of unnecessary stress and work. Women are not treated fairly. They do put women in management positions but in most case, they have no real authority. A lot of smart and qualified women have been pushed down or out of the company. However if you know the right people, you can get promoted, whether you deserve it or not which means a lot of deserving people don't get promotions. The bank has a very high efficiency ratio because they work people very hard.

Worst company I have ever worked at ...

Pros

Some people are great to work with, but that is few and far between.

Cons

Management does not effectively communicate and creates a negative work environment. HR does nor create a people oriented environment and handles issues in an unethical manner. Doing the right thing is not part of the culture and likely never will be. The company is only about the bottom line and executive leadership will do anything to meet their goals. If you are a "yes" person then this is the workplace for you.

Growth = Opportunity

Pros

Like any job, your experience is probably going to be 95% dependent on your direct manager and department--mine happens to be great and so my job is as well. I'm challenged (in a good way) and have a boss who welcomes new ideas. Of course you have to prove why they make sense but that's just smart management. And I'm given what I need to make those ideas happen and trusted to manage my own work. We do a ton of work but it's rewarding to see how the small things are adding up to big improvements over time. HQ is located in a beautiful highrise downtown in a very central location. The bank is also very involved in the community and puts on lots of events for charities or with other partners which I also like. Company has had big growth and solid stock performance which is great when bonus time comes around.

Cons

As any company grows, things change. There are growing pains that come with that. To me, changes in teams or systems are just part of that. Some communication from management about why changes are needed or the long term plan might help smooth some of that over and address some of the grumbling, but I think people need to quit the whining and recognize this isn't a place where you can just punch a clock and coast. Do good work and you'll get rewarded for it. The last place I worked was full of people who coasted by, never tried to get better...and the declining sales, lack of raises and closing of divisions reflected that. This was a welcome change.
