Not a great place to work

Pros

Some nice people Recognition is ok (used to be great) Free lunch

Cons

Location flexibility is very limited and often feels inconsistent. Decisions about who is allowed to work in certain offices appear opaque, and employees who express preferences sometimes feel those preferences work against them rather than being considered. There are also concerning cultural issues. In my experience, there was a noticeable gender imbalance in how careers progressed. Maternity leave was often perceived as time away rather than a normal part of working life, which meant women with children could find themselves behind peers who had simply worked more continuous hours. Some colleagues returning from maternity leave felt sidelined or moved out of their previous roles. Leadership often seemed disconnected from the day-to-day reality for employees. Independent thinking wasn’t always encouraged, and the culture could feel top-down rather than collaborative. Because of this, people were often reluctant to raise concerns openly, which led to a lack of honest feedback and psychological safety within teams. When I left the company after several years, I asked for an exit interview because I wanted to provide constructive feedback that might improve the experience for others who cannot easily leave. Unfortunately, it felt like there was little interest in hearing it. I have since moved to a much healthier work environment and am grateful for the change.

Thanks for taking the time to share this, especially given your tenure, that perspective matters. On the gender point you raised, I think it’s important to address that directly. At an overall level, our organisation, including People Leaders and senior leadership, is pretty balanced, sitting close to a 50:50 split globally. That doesn’t mean every team or discipline looks the same, but on balance we’re in a strong place relative to the market. Representation is one part of the picture, but how people experience things like maternity leave, returning to work, and progression also matters. Our focus is on ensuring those experiences are consistent and fair across the organisation. You’ve also called out leadership visibility, psychological safety, and the ability to speak up. As we’ve scaled, maintaining that consistently across teams becomes more complex, and it’s an area we’re actively working to strengthen. On the exit experience, we do have mechanisms in place to capture feedback, and that input is used to inform how we evolve as a company. I'm sorry that experience wasn't a positive one for you, but we do take note of the feedback in these processes. There’s a lot we’re continuing to evolve as a business, we're not a scale up anymore and so we need to balance employee experience with business requirements and consistent, global processes. We won’t get everything right, but the focus is on building a more consistent, transparent, and scalable organisation. Appreciate you taking the time to share this.

Pros

Our product is a positive thing in the workplace Colleagues are fantastic The internal recognition program is great Decent amount of annual leave Pension and healthcare

Cons

Opened a second office during covid when most people wanted to WFH Have cut a substantial number of staff recently and handled these cuts awfully This year they are not giving us a wage increase to match inflation despite the crippling cost of living They flatly refuse to consider a 4-day work week. They are now talking about forcing us to return to the office, which is so out of tune with what their employees actually want and something which will increase costs for employees with transport/childcare etc. We do business with some unethical companies

Thank you for your feedback. The layoffs were an extremely difficult time for all of us, whether you were directly impacted or not. We entered into that process with the best of intentions but like all things we have taken the opportunity to look at lessons learned and have incorporated feedback into some of our internal processes and communication strategies. While a lot of us have been working from home through the pandemic, many of our employees have been coming to the office every week for some time. As an organisation we will always have a mix of fully remote, fully onsite and hybrid workers but we believe a more significant hybrid workforce is more aligned to our company culture and mission or connectivity and deep human connections. Thanks again for your feedback, please do reach out to your leaders or HXSP team if you want to discuss more in confidence.

Pros

Peer to peer recognition and gratitude Working with capable and collaborative people

Cons

- No investment in tech debt - Org operates in a chaotic and reactionary manner - Hierarchical, senior leaders appear to make decisions in a vacuum - No useful information is being provided re the redundancy process which has kicked off since last week. People are really stressed and unsettled and it appears the Leadership reps from Workhuman are treating the consultation process with disdain. - No clear info is being provided on the redundancy package but it looks like it is less than generous. For a company that has made so much money, it is really disappointing to see the people who have helped build it, being treated so badly

Thank you for taking the time to write us a review. The decision to restructure was made to enable Workhuman to continue to deliver maximum value to our customers. We are heartbroken by the decision, and we’re committed to being generous and helpful with any individuals impacted and are providing additional supports through what we know are very difficult times. The process of collective redundancy is strictly governed from a legal process perspective and so we are bound by these guidelines in terms of how we work through this. This is a time of great difficulty for those involved in the redundancy process in any capacity, as well as for our colleagues not directly impacted. We are keenly aware of this. Should you have any further concerns, please reach out to me and we can discuss.
