No unified leadership, incompetence abounds in some key functions

Pros

Great place to start your career. Nice offices and fun coworkers.

Cons

Company has no unified leadership or executive function. Every Director / VP is operating in their own best interest and sometimes directly against the best interest of other departments. There is no long or short term executive planning function so no one is working toward the same goal. If you work under multiple executive functions this WILL haunt you as you’re often led in opposing directions. The chaos is necessary when trying to get a project off the ground, but 6 years post IPO it’s just become pathological. No signs of changing any time soon, which means they won’t be making any profit any time soon, either. That is not sustainable in times of recession. “HR” is incompetent, to say the least. Know your rights because they certainly don’t and hope you won’t look into them, either. Warning to job hunters: those “best of” workplace lists are meaningless. HR and marketing submit applications using whatever cherry picked info they want. As always, Workiva is much more concerned with appearances than reality.

Terrible Culture

Pros

The product is great and has an easy value story, any idiot can sell it. Hence why the company is full of them.

Cons

The worse culture. The CEO is great and preaches positive values. It stops there. The line managers and VP's are where the chain is broken. Yelling sprees, bully culture. Everyone for themselves and colleagues are quick to dump you under the bus because of their own mistakes. This is your typical good ol boys club and if you don't give the impression you're one of them be careful. Doesn't matter what your performance.

Women in Tech Look Elsewhere

Anonymous employee

Business Outlook

Pros

1) Laid-back environment 2) Flexible work hours

Cons

1) The company is a good-ole boy network. 2) Women are rarely hired into technical roles. When they are, they have to outperform just to be noticed, but are never rewarded. 2) The company tries to promote itself as supportive of female tech workers, but look closely at the photographs in the articles. They send the same (~6) women to all industry events, because that's all they have. 3) If you're somebody's sister, that's an exception. Nepotism reigns. 4) Pay is well below industry average. 5) No 401-K contribution matching.

Workiva Response

We are very fortunate to have a group of female engineers that are very active in promoting Workiva at networking events and conferences. We recognize that there is always room for improvement with gender diversity, especially in tech. This group of women have chosen to help us address this challenge. If you would like to help make a positive impact, please reach out to us at talentacquisition@workiva.com and we would be very open to your suggestions.
