Pros

Easy to get hired into Benefits are pretty decent A good manager can shield you from the crap in some cases

Cons

Bureaucratic corporate culture Senior leaders who don't care about employees Senior leaders who are aloof Senior leaders who don't know how to lead Pay/benefits package getting worse over time Promotions based on cronyism rather than performance Obfuscated and corruption-prone bonus and compensation system Bad products/code bases Culture of political intrigue and "talk a lot but do nothing" Too much work for too few people Undefined/unclear roles Leadership cannot handle disagreement or frank discussion Marginalization and/or retaliation if you aren't in the inner circle Lack of mobility within the company Hiring from outside despite more qualified internal candidates applying Lack of cohesion and cooperation between products Lack of communication Best people leaving and worst people staying Leaders constantly saying how bad things are good Execs constantly saying how great the company is doing while not sharing it Expectations that people work 2-3 people's jobs as people leave

Pros

-Support is a good way to get your foot in the door, learn the products

Cons

-Management is out of touch with what is happening on the floor -Management tries to put a choke hold on your career, they will try to keep you in the department even after another department has hired you. - SQA process is a joke, you have people whose sole purpose is to grade your interactions with customers based on what they think an “ideal” interaction should look like, but the person over this group has no relevant experience, other than being the departments heads son. - Managers are more content with having a body in a chair taking minimal interactions. Techs are aware of who doesn’t do their job, this leads to resentment to that person and the management team that defends them. - It looks like development is more preoccupied with pushing out releases then the quality of the release

Pros

It's a solid company and the training is good. The company is improving in a lot of ways, but the tech support department still needs a lot of improvement. Most of the people are really nice and easy to work with.

Cons

Morale in the support department is at an all time low. It feels like you are no longer a person but just a set of numbers on a spread sheet. Managers seem to have no idea how to improve morale, and just bring in cookies and think that will fix the problem. It's nice, but not a long term solution.
