Poor Management of Contingent Workforce

Pros

Some latitude for creativity without burden of micromanaging. Generally attractive compensation and good working conditions. Company facilitates safe work practices and safety conscious environment.

Cons

No job security or expectations. Would give Xylem a favorable rating if the company had some form of exit process for contractors. To terminate performing contractors and employees with no communication whatsoever from managers or exit interview from HR, etc. is most unprofessional and reflective of inept management. The HR function consists of multiple outsourced organizations and no communication between them seems to exist. Some lines of business are very wasteful of resources logistically and asset-wise. While no doubt it’s challenging to centralize a decentralized collection of businesses, it is my opinion management of this company is not performing in the best interests of their employees, contractors, customers and investors.

Pros

- Extremely flexible - People genuinely care about their work, a real pulse to the office - Depending on the team, legacy code isn't a real problem

Cons

- Management is consistently bipolar - Extremely cliquey, especially the higher you move up - As a result, upward progress is non-existent - it's getting lucky to land in the right position, otherwise you're SoL if you want to move lateral. - Constructive feedback is ignored unless you're the right person - Marketing runs rampant, gets reeled in, and then runs rampant again - Most baffling hiring practices I've ever seen.
