Pros

Benefits, pension for Local 34 employees, and winter recess.

Cons

Having worked at School of Drama for years, I can confidently say this collection of folks are the most deeply unprofessional and unkind I have ever worked with anywhere. Leadership is totally out of touch with the community, and at the end of the day, are far too self-serving to implement any substantive change regarding diversity and equity initiatives. Sure, plenty of chatter on the topic, but it's practically mandated at this juncture. This work is essentially for the students, who will always be the priority in this School. If you are a hardworking administrator dodging microaggressions and white supremacist work culture practices courtesy of leadership, you are considered less-than. Very little sense of community, as everyone is perpetually in survival mode as they navigate the endlessly bumpy terrain of School of Drama. Senior leadership will absolutely lie to your face, provide plenty of lip service, and completely disregard your concerns. This will not change until the panel of Deans (currently four) are disbanded. Or, at the very least, until Salovey discontinues his endorsement and reappointment of Bundy. If you are a C&T employee represented by the Local 34 bargaining unit, do not waste your time going to HR about anything. Go directly to your union steward, as HR represents the administration, not you. Procuring a role at Yale can be lifechanging for so many, but School of Drama rarely allows you to see the label from inside the jar. Once you are in the University, there are plenty of opportunities to transfer out of your department, so do not be too discouraged.

Pros

Good work-life balance. Yale has many amazing and talented staff. I had a wonderful work experience. The culture and environment were very inclusive.

Cons

The salary is not always the highest compared to other companies with similar job descriptions. However, the benefits make up for a lower salary.

Feel trapped

Pros

Good pay, pension, and retirement. I stay for the debt-relief program.

Cons

Health insurance plan is negligent, managers do what they want and do not follow the Yale best practices. They don't really care about you if you're not part of the clique.
