Pros

Academia and unionized position, so great benefits that help make up for lower than private industry pay. Includes a good deal of PTO, sick days, and holidays. Supports training as employee and learning more techniques . Many Yale-affiliated benefits like discounts, first time home owners programs, financial counseling, etc.

Cons

Primarily the lower than industry pay, so less appealing for people other than individuals transitioning from one stage to another like premeds/pre-professional school recent undergrads. Also, quality of life depends on the PI. My experience has been good, but I've heard of bad experiences from connections at other research institutions.

Yale has perks, but it depends on whether those make you happy

Pros

Offers retirement, name recognition of an Ivy League school (but it's more about the PI you work for). Since Yale has a large financial endowment, some services (food, gym, product discounts) are subsidized.

Cons

High taxes meaning your take home salary is significantly lower, especially as a single person. Yale attracts a lot of intellectuals from all around the world with go-getter mentality, but they also hire from local communities (whom I believe do not respect the Yale community because of insecurities). This rift does not blatantly confront you. But the support staff, etc give much less energy and sometimes provide toxic environments lacking community. This can be counter productive and frustrating if you are working in a field that requires teamwork and a lot of communication

Pros

Benefits were very good at yale

Cons

Management needs alot of work. Promotions should not be based of friendships. Hire management that knows what they are doing. Or here is an even better idea . Hire staff that are already there. Better pay would be nice as well.
