Pros

Staff has made me feel comfortable from day one. Offered plenty of orientation time until I was comfortable enough to be on my own.

Cons

Intense work environment if you're not used to working in a locked facility. Getting my ID badge took a little long which made it difficult to get in and out of the facility.

Thanks for your feedback! We recently revamped our onboarding to better ensure that all of our employees have all the right “tools in their toolbox” before they are working independently. Glad to hear it was a positive experience for you. As to the work environment, you are certainly correct! For the security of our staff and custody, everything seems to take a bit longer in the corrections setting. Welcome to the team! Courtney Penning, Director of Talent Acquisition

Thank you for providing feedback on Corizon Health. I’m glad to hear that the work keeps you challenged. We do have a Time & Attendance policy that should be adhered to and enforced to ensure that employees are relieved on time. Unfortunately there are times when staff are unable to attend their scheduled shift or are late when arriving which impacts current staff. Providing healthcare in a correctional institution can be very challenging at times and it is very important that all staff, doctors and management included, are firm but fair in their treatment of patients and staff. When I speak to someone that is unfamiliar with the correctional setting, I echo some of what you’ve outlined here. I can’t purport that corrections is for everyone, but for those that can adapt to the environment, it can be a very stimulating place to be, and allows nurses to use a broader set of their skills within their licensure, than they may have the opportunity to do in other settings. In terms of turnover… that is one of our biggest initiatives moving forward. A group of 65 representatives from across the company (corporate, clinical, front line staff, operators, etc.), convened last March for a “Tackling Turnover” session. We brain stormed on what we can do better, as a company, to ensure we recruit top talent and that they desire to stay with us. Some of the initiatives and best practices, identified from that meeting, have been rolled out to the field. It is our hope that this contributes to further stabilization on our workforce. Initial data indicates we are headed in the right direction! Thanks for your work with Corizon. Sincerely, Courtney Penning, Director of Talent Acquisition
