Human resources lacking moral integrity

Pros

Great pay, fun office environment with great collaboration and free coffee daily and food provided once weekly

Cons

This company does not believe in written process which is great for pro active people And those who are able to think outside the box-but terrible for employees lacking and Boven experience and self-motivation as they think they can get away with not trying their best. Working with mediocre talent tends to be infectious and I wouldn’t want one bad apple to spoil the bunch. The human resources department never followed up on an open claim I made where an employee of mine had submitted fraudulent information on her resume and was taking advantage of company time. In addition to not having held the positions listed on her resume, she also did not have any of the professional certifications she claimed to hold nor any of the minimum qualifications required for the position needed to perform the job such as simple data analysis and project management experience. As a manager I attempted to replace this individual by following protocol but later found out she was a friend of my bosses boss and instead I got fired without any prior warning. Paying a friend over $100,000 a year versus any other qualified individual in my mind proves their lack of integrity- especially since they were unwilling to acknowledge employees wasting space and company money. Their customers were suffering as a result of this lazy, careless employee and I Merely tried to replace this person with someone more qualified which would have only benefited the company and our stakeholders. I would not work for this place again if they begged me to come back.

Pros

There is a lot of talk about innovation, culture, and entrepreneurship—in reality none of those things add up.

Cons

While I am sure work satisfaction varies between role, rank and management, there are an alarming number of people who constantly complain and extremely dislike their jobs. Within a couple weeks of starting at Zayo, I quickly saw the wide-sweeping distrust in management, lack of direction from management, and disregard for employee satisfaction. Bonus payouts were always 40-70% of the target bonus that they pitch you on during the hiring process, and when the company didn’t hit its goals, direction from the C-suite boiled down to “work harder”. The company’s policies became more restrictive during the time that I was there, removing the possibility of working from home. Needless to say, turnover in all parts of the company was extremely high—unusually high on the executive level, which speaks for itself. Work life balance was little to none, with many roles in the company being required to work normal daytime hours and be on call 24/7 even during holidays and weekends for no additional pay or leniency in daytime work schedules. I might further add that being on-call is relatively normal in the technology sector, with responsibility usually rotating through groups, and generally infrequent middle-of-the-night issues. With Zayo it was not this way, sleeping through one entire night in a week felt like a gift. If that sounds like your piece of cake, go for it and work for Zayo, otherwise heed all of the other reviews and find another place to work.

Pros

There are some great people at Zayo. Most of the ones I knew are unhappy and wanting to leave. Great products - service delivery used to be great but went down hill after constant changes, lack of bonuses and just a unhealthy work environment.

Cons

As with all telecoms - its a boys club. This boys club has a mix of boys who want to men and kids playing executive in the Zayo sandbox. There are some great individuals with amazing talent still holding on to hope that Dan C will retire and let someone else steer the ship. It is well known within Zayo that Dan C hates salespeople - it is starting to leak out to the outside world just how much. The carrot/stick management style and mind games these boys like to play.. are played out and old. Anyone in sales worth their salt and knows how to build business and close deals has left or is leaving. The ones who are staying are holding on for stock, personal reasons or scared to step out of the Zayo world.
