Wheels Are Coming Off

Pros

Interesting area, in flight entertainment, with challenging problems to solve. Lots of software to write with the possibilities of innovative solutions.

Cons

A very few folks run the show, with no communication to the rest of the company. Often decisions are made with no input from technicians. Once decisions are made only dribs and drabs are passed on without vital knowledge of the full picture. This has gotten worse as more employees are hired. Run as if in a start up environment, even though the company has been in existence for over eight years. Privately held with no chance of stock or profit sharing. Initial "probationary period" of 90 days with no benefits.

Volatile

Pros

Good, talented, hard-working people to work with. Interesting domain providing multimedia entertainment systems to airlines. Challenging work. Management often willing to accommodate employees' personal schedules.

Cons

Privately owned but run like a startup with most everyone having to work excessive hours. Very poor management communication and highly volatile schedules. Entrenched management with questionable possibility of real advancement. Varying amounts of offshoring. Limited ability to use actual hardware required for your job. Large waves of hiring followed by layoffs.

Seems Like a Good Place to Work

Pros

Supportive management and ability to make case to management for technical needs makes this a good place to work. Also, have the ability to work from home and take time off as needed.

Cons

Private company, so no stock in sight. "Challenging schedules". Use of modified scrum development method wastes time each day reporting on schedules.
