Pros

Energetic work environment. I worked on a team of great people.

Cons

Zones has a policy that when you move laterally, from one to another, you keep the same pay. I was at a 35,000 base as a sales person. I then moved into the training department and had to keep my 35,000. This made me the lowest paid trainer on the team by a HUGE margin. I loved what I did there and I like that Zones is committed to training but after a year and a half I had to leave. I left for an 11,000 raise and two years later I hopped companies for a 30,000 raise. In less than 4 years I have doubled my income. Zones' unwillingness to pay me what I was worth should be an embarrassment to them.

Pros

Good online ordering system for customers. Wide variety of products to sell to customers.

Cons

I worked at Zones for 3 yrs. I was #2 in my Region for all 3 yrs. I had a brand new territory with no existing business when I started. You will need to be a scrapper because IF you think that upper Mgmt will help you to land big accounts, think again. When I brought Mgmt in to help me win a large deal in a new account, worth 50% of my annual quota, they criticized me for all sorts of things that THEY "thought the client needed" even though we were only focused on what the client told us they needed. Once Mgmt got involved, there were too many people talking to my client vs. going thru me. This confused the customer and my 9 mos of work almost went out the window. Then when we landed the deal, Mgmt told me that they had to retract 40% of my commission based on "the resources that they had used" to win the deal- I'm not talking about price or discount. This company is close to be a real contender but then they play with the commission plan which disincentivizes sales people, they don't give enough training to the Product Specialists- so they aren't up on the newest things, they give a lot of recognition to the same "old boy" network without looking at who is helping them expand the company in cities outside of Company Headquarters etc. If you are considering Zones, take what they tell you in benefits and Engineering support and cut it in half. Consider SHI or working directly for Dell, Cisco, EMC before Zones..

Thank you for your three years at Zones. We appreciate all that you contributed to the organization during that time. Last year, we nearly doubled our field sales footprint at Zones across all geographies and technical disciplines. No one is investing more in sales and subject matter experts than Zones is today, and this year we will continue that investment. No doubt, as you were part of our first teams in your region, we relied heavily on you, our AEs, to open the door and drive customer opportunities. Thank you for doing that. With our new, expanded technical teams, today AEs will have even more support to drive customer opportunities. In terms of our commission structure, we urge all team members with questions to speak directly to their managers to make sure there is no confusion, as some commissions plans can be hard to understand. Again, thank you for your three years at Zones.
