Pros

Zoox does not feel or look like your typical start up. There are 800+ employees and most all take their jobs very seriously. People come in at 8-9:00am and actually work a solid 8-9 hours. The talent coming into Zoox on a weekly basis speaks volumes. People leaving jobs at Facebook, Google, Tesla, Apple, Ferrari to join the team. Amazing talent! People want Zoox to succeed.

Cons

Company teeters back and forth between wanting to be recognized as a legit, competitive, mature company yet still maintain that “start-up” vibe/ culture. They want to grow up but are not quite ready to make the leap. Also, they only serve healthy, no sugar, bland food/snacks and you feel shamed if you drink a soda or eat a candy bar. Ultra healthy to the point where people feel ashamed to eat a candy bar or drink a soda at their desks. I’ve seen people go outside to eat a candy bar, or retreat to a phone room to drink a soda. It really does make some people feel body/food shamed, and I have never experienced that at any company I have ever worked for!

Pros

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Zoox. Time goes by pretty fast when you work here; the pace that we are working at is definitely accelerated but that's one of the reasons I chose to work here. I am consistently challenged and professionally, I have grown exponentially more than any other job I have held. I find the culture to be transparent (still somewhat stealthy to the outside world, honest/open once you're here), one that fosters creativity, and inclusive. It's also becoming more and more of a diverse place to work, which I appreciate.

Cons

The cons depend on what type of environment you want to work in. If the above sounds like more than you'd like to bite off, this is probably not the place for you. We are moving quickly, don't have a lot of big-company structure, and management makes changes nimbly and as they see fit (usually for the best). If you are looking to work on unsolved problems at a dynamic workplace, then I can find few true "cons" at Zoox.

Pros

- Challenging work and there were definitely some brilliant folks there - Fast paced environment and many days were enjoyable

Cons

This place was never known for being a positive work environment, and it has sadly taken a turn for the worse in the last year. Leading up to Tim's firing, Tim had become a complete egomaniac and this culture of selfishness was becoming rampant. Many chill people left and many remaining have been in a full-on land-grab for more prestigious titles and positions. The toxicity became too much. I tried fighting it off, but it was a losing battle. I'm worried that the current direction could lead to more reckless decisions and a degraded engineering culture. The technical challenges ahead are *massive* and will require billions with big teams of drivers. But the code quality is only getting worse, technical debt more crippling, and morale is sinking.
