Great Product, Great People, Toxic Leadership

Pros

The original product vision was fantastic. The co-founders established a scrappy startup culture with a vision of how the product would evolve over time. First 5 years saw massive growth. People here are passionate about their job and for the most part very skilled. Working in the bike industry is fun, and in person events in the past were a great way to meet coworkers from other departments.

Cons

Everything changed when the original head of Product and cofounder stepped down. Current leadership has little to no experience in software development let alone game development. Development is a mess. Constant useless meetings, design proposal process that takes more time to get something approved then to develop a feature, and decisions being made by leaders who don't understand the product. Releases have very little meaningful content, leadership uses buzzwords to explain decision making. Compensation is always lagging. Your title and pay often reflects where you were a year or more ago. Promotions don't reflect accomplishments but rather focus on internal networking and who you know. There are more VPs then game programmers. Company is riding off the success of it's first 5 years but it can only last so long.

Great People; Poor Leadership

Pros

If you're a cyclist, it's great - great discounts, opportunities to meet visiting Pros, as well as other famous athletes.

Cons

- Zwift laid off 30+ employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. - No room for growth, you will have a boss hired over you. - Too management heavy, not enough "normal people" to execute. - Lack of respect for female voices in meetings. - Development is painfully slow. - Poor communication between departments and top-down. - Lack of diversity, especially in leadership.

Pros

Great product, Good salaries and benefits, Amazing company if you like cycling

Cons

After 2 significant layoffs in 2 years, it's clear that Zwift don't care about their staff. They are similar to any other companies in this regard but they are brutal in the way they do it. There are numerous examples of staff who left a good job to join Zwift (some of them were even asked to relocate) and who were made redundant few months after...without any attempt from the company to reposition them. Zwift spend a lot of time and energy in improving their image with "best place to work" rankings but this can't hide the fact that they are ruthless when it comes to sack people. Key advise: if you are offered a job at Zwift and you don't have to leave a good job and/or relocate, it's worth giving it a go...otherwise I would avoid this company
