Pros

BP previously provided excellent opportunities for international mobility. The downside was that there was no clear strategy for how to manage expats.

Cons

The lack of leadership at BP is evident over the past few years. An organization that once prided itself on being "progressive" has allowed itself to become stagnant as Senior Management shows more concern for staying in their post and less driving a strategy that once made BP the pride of the energy sector.

Pros

A huge company with global prescence, a nice working enviroment where you can quickly find your comfort zone and work your way around the company - doing lots of meaningless jobs with fancy job titles. Still a few expat roles out there, where the money and benefits are excellent.

Cons

Small fish in a big pond - very uncommercial management team, constant change, underperforming, low pay, rapidly reducing total reward package (just got rid of c-days etc) At the moment they are on a real cost-cutting process, which has dramtically reduced the amount of international travel opportuninties. Senior management have been around to long and lost touch with the quickly changing oil&gas environment

Pros

Balancing work and life hours is fairly important. But, because BP is based in the UK, we sometimes work on US Holidays (i.e. Labor Day, Indepedence Day). Stress diversity (this can be both good and bad).

Cons

Non-competative salaries; slow-moving with everything; poor internal planning. Because many employees have been there for years and plan to stay until they retire, there's no incentive to go the extra mile. Many of the employees with 20+ years are on the average 50-50 years old. BP seriously needs new, fresh ideas from younger people.
