Congratulations to our teams at CRCH and CRMH, whose hard work and dedication to our patients has earned a Focused Verification designation from the American College of Surgeons Quality Verification Program! 🏆🏥 Only 17 health systems nationwide have received this prestigious designation, which offers hospitals a proven, standardized method for establishing, measuring and improving their quality structure across all surgical departments. Being an ACS Quality Partner demonstrates our commitment to giving our surgical teams the tools and resources they need—like the best data, expert input and proven processes—so we can deliver the highest quality care to our patients
In honor of Black History Month, we celebrate our Black employees and communities and honor those who have guided us to today and are leading us to the innovations of tomorrow. Henrietta Lacks' contribution to advancing medicine is a shining example. Mrs. Lacks was born in Roanoke and died of cervical cancer in 1951 while living in Maryland. Without her knowledge, her cells were taken for research and have supported over 70 years of worldwide medical research discoveries. We are proud to have helped support the creation of the statue of Mrs. Lacks in the City of Roanoke's Lacks Plaza. A smaller but equally significant sculpture is in the lobby of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital to remind us that Mrs. Lacks' story lives on in the work we do every day.
Congratulations to Tony Parker, who was recently celebrated for his Strongest Housekeeper Award! 🏆 Tony was nominated by a patient for this well-deserved recognition. We're lucky to have Tony as part of the Carilion team.
Our CFMH leadership team serving dinner at the Franklin County Warming Center last Thursday and Friday evenings. Members of the team donated, prepared and served food to cook up this community service project.
This is how we go red for heart health—celebrating the American Heart Association’s national #WearRedDay with education, health screenings, heart-healthy snacks and stress-busting mini massages for our teams (and of course a whole lot of red)! ❤️❤️ Thank you to all employees who showed up to show support and raise awareness of the risks of heart disease in women, and a special shoutout to those who participated by providing information and screenings.
Exciting news! We continue to elevate care in southwest Virginia. We're excited to announce that we are filing an application with the state to start an adult kidney transplant program at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. In 2021, over 100 patients had to leave our area for kidney transplantation services, and the need is projected to grow by more than 25% by 2025. If approved, our program will become Virginia's eighth and the only one in southwest Virginia. We're looking forward to patients receiving these vital services and care close to home.
This image captures the moment our teams at our Roanoke Campus (Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital and associated departments) learned we had achieved Magnet recognition from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for the fifth time—and the pride we all feel in such an incredible accomplishment! The Magnet designation is the highest honor an organization can receive for its nursing services. We are the only Virginia hospital to receive it five times, and only 1% of Magnet hospitals across the nation have four or more. Congratulations to everyone whose hard work made this happen!
First-in-the-world technology is always exciting—but especially when it keeps our patients safer and helps us deliver even better care. Our molecular imaging team, led by Jackson Kiser, M.D., medical director, is the very first worldwide to use the new Lara Real-Time Visualization (RTV) injection monitoring device. Being able to monitor therapeutic injections in real time allows the team to make sure that therapeutic doses are delivered inside a patient's vein. We're proud to lead the way in using this technology for the benefit of our patients receiving cancer treatment.
Our teams at CRBH remembered Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., by participating in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day parade in Lexington.
We are excited to celebrate the completed expansion that adds four additional operating rooms to Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital, doubling the number of operating rooms at this facility! The expansion will help us meet community needs for outpatient surgical services. The first procedure is scheduled for Jan. 12, and surgical teams will gradually transition to the space in the coming months.
