The first full week of October is #MentalIllnessAwarenessWeek. Mental health matters all year long, but we’re giving it extra attention this week. Many people with substance use disorders experience mental health conditions like anxiety or depression. At Groups, we recognize this reality — and we’re proud to advocate for the mental health and holistic well-being of all of our members. Our care team works hard to support our members in all areas of life, including their mental health. If members need a higher level of mental health care, we help them find the right providers. In honor of this special week, we’re sharing some of the mental health resources we recommend to our members.
Last week we released an analysis of data owned by the state of Indiana and shared with Groups demonstrating that outcomes-oriented, long-term care leads to tremendous outcomes for members while decreasing healthcare costs. Between July 2020 and June 2021, Groups Recover Together reduced the total cost of care for members with opioid use disorder by 33% through partnerships with Indiana health plans. In 2022 the Groups team served over 20,000 individuals with evidence-based, holistic treatment across 16 states. In a year when overdose fatalities reached a record high, despite treatment capacity growing because of telehealth services, Groups is proud to have demonstrated consistently strong clinical outcomes across both virtual and in-person services. Groups Recover Together was founded in 2014 to serve individuals and communities impacted by the opioid epidemic by offering evidence-based addiction treatment, a holistic model, and a hyper-local presence. When COVID-19 forced an industry-wide shift to telehealth, Groups continued to invest in local communities. Today Groups operates 142 offices, many of which have opened since March 2020.
