Hej! My name is Kori Thorstenson, and I’m the Market (Store) Manager at the IKEA Tempe store. I am a working mother of two young daughters, and my husband and I believe that equality begins at home. We are teaching our daughters that they are loved, strong and capable of anything they set their minds to. For me, equality means recognizing and embracing diversity. Gender equality not only means that opportunities should be available to everyone, but it means that everyone can have the chance to develop their potential and have a voice. I am inspired by all of the women leaders at IKEA who lead inclusively, and I am super proud to work for an organization that values diversity and equality at all levels. My advice to young women today is to believe in yourself, find a seat at the table and be a part of the solution. If you already have a seat at the table, support the younger generation of women by showing them the way and by becoming a mentor. Be a part of shaping a more equal future!
Hej! My name is Phil Wellington and I’m the Country People & Culture Manager at IKEA U.S. I recently had the pleasure of meeting with our Talent Acquisition leaders to discuss how our culture and values inform our decisions here at IKEA. As we prepare for the next fiscal year, I’m energized to continue strategizing with this great team and focus on the opportunities that the future will bring to our organization. Great talent is always at the heart of IKEA! 💙
IKEA Frisco co-workers had the pleasure of welcoming IKEA Retail U.S. CEO & Chief Sustainability Officer Javier Quiñones to their store last Wednesday. From breakfast with co-workers to checking out the Design Center and taking a selfie at the Selfie Wall – IKEA co-workers gave Javi the full IKEA Frisco experience! Come back soon, neighbor! 👋
Simple changes to our habits can make our homes more sustainable and have a positive impact on the planet. ♻️ At IKEA, we’re making it easier for the many to live sustainably and are continuing to work toward our goals to reduce waste and emissions. With small changes at home, we can all make a world of difference. #Sustainability
Hej! I’m Kyra Ellzysmith, an Innovation and Co-Creation Catalyst here at IKEA, and this is my wife, Cheryl, on the left! To me, Pride is a chance to take the time to celebrate who we are, be proud of what makes us different and be accepting of people owning their true selves. I love that Pride helps people grow their own pride within themselves by allowing them to show who they are with no judgements and full acceptance. My family celebrates Pride by traveling to Rehoboth at the beginning of the month every year for a large gathering of the LGBTQ+ community. Here, we reunite with lifetime friends and experience different sides of our community and how it’s grown. My wife and I love seeing nontraditional families and how accepting our culture is. We also love welcoming newcomers! Through all this, we get to share our experiences as well as learn from other peoples’ experiences, which helps all of us to better live our lives, change and evolve.
Glenn Phillips (he/him/his) here! I’m the People & Culture Manager at IKEA Atlanta. I’ve been with my partner, Nick, for 35 years and have been married for ten of those. For #Pride, our Pride Progress flag goes up, both at home and IKEA. We also host dinner events, where friends and allies of all ages share stories of their life journeys around Pride! I’m so inspired by IKEA and my co-workers. The diversity and love within the IKEA community is positively overpowering. To my allies, I encourage you to practice Appreciative Inquiry. With a positive approach, an ally can ask me anything; I will always be caring and honest. Historically, allies have moved mountains that the impacted group themselves could not budge. I adore and respect our allies. To me, Pride means an inner feeling of freedom to bring my whole self into a space. IKEA gives me that.
Happy #Pride! 🌈 I’m Michael Canup SHRM-CP, an IKEA Recruiter for the New York market, and this is my sidekick Laila, a Jack Russell. 🐶 As I reflect on what Pride means to me, I remember how special it is. Growing up, I was bullied and questioned by others. Once I accepted my uniqueness, I was able to enjoy and feel part of the Gay community, and my family and friends. To me, Pride means accepting who I am and supporting others in their steps to accepting themselves and others. Plus, the Pride parades around the world are fantastic! At IKEA, I found the energy to be open and share who I am. After being with IKEA for over 10 years, I see every day the support they give to our community. Not only is it a wonderful place to work, it is a safe place to work and be yourself.
Hej, my name is Chase Lorensen. 👋 I’m a Safety and Security co-worker at our Savannah, GA Customer Fulfillment Center. In March, my family and I were blessed with a baby boy, Al-Dean Richard. I’m grateful to IKEA US for offering a generous parental leave – being home for his first two months was truly a blessing. Thank you, IKEA!
Hej! My name is Liberty Sagucio-Nittel and I’m a People & Culture Generalist at IKEA Burbank. I was born and raised in Los Angeles after my parents came to the U.S. from the Philippines to pursue a better life for our family. Although I wasn’t born in the motherland or may not speak Tagalog, my parents always stressed that it doesn’t make me any less Filipino than them! While my parents assimilated to American culture, they always made sure to instill in me the importance of our Filipino traditions and culture – which I hope to do for my daughter and her children. They taught me to love & support family unconditionally, respect our elders and that it’s okay to eat rice and fried eggs with a spoon and a fork! 😊
Hej! I’m Mai Chau and I’m part of the Talent Acquisition team at IKEA U.S., where I have the opportunity to recruit and hire for new businesses across the country. Celebrating #AAPIHeritageMonth means celebrating my favorite things about Vietnamese culture. One of my favorite holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), is when my entire family gets together to wish each other good luck and hope for the best during the new year while giving all the children li xi (lucky money). To us, gift giving is a sign of love and respect to our friends and family and is a huge part of the Vietnamese culture. What are you celebrating this Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month?
