Kleinfelder Senior Engineering Geologist Michael Cook, PG, CEG, from our Riverside office recently presented at an elementary school’s Career Day – the third consecutive year this school has requested him! “The experience of interacting with all the students was truly rewarding, from sharing examples of projects I have worked on to letting the students hold some of the rock specimens and fossils I have collected over the past 39 years,” he said. “I enjoyed seeing the kids’ – as well as the teachers’ – interests spark when shown the minerals, fossil, and rock specimens, which included a large quartz crystal, sharks’ teeth, pyrite specimens, and rock cores. The one specimen that got the most questions was ivory fragments from a mammoth tusk I found during a grading project early in my professional career.” Michael introduced more than 300 students to the science of geology and how it relates to their everyday lives in a single day. Join Michael and check out Kleinfelder’s geology opportunities (and many other open positions) today!

This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW), and today is Go Orange Day. Observed for more than 20 years, NWZAW raises awareness of the need for more caution when driving through work zones to decrease fatalities and injuries. Work zone fatal crashes and fatalities continue to rise, with 956 total fatalities reported in 2021. Go Orange Day is a chance to show your support of work zone safety, and for the families of victims who have lost their lives in work zones, by wearing orange. "I am wearing orange today to show my support of NWZAW and all the women and men of Kleinfelder who work in work zones supporting our clients," says Kleinfelder President and CEO Louis Armstrong. We encourage you to join us in wearing orange in support of work zone safety, take a photo, then share on social media; and don't forget to slow down and drive cautiously when passing through work zones.
