We were honored to welcome Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Helen Arteaga and Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) Nisha Agarwal, along with members of their teams, to NYU Langone Health. We appreciated the opportunity to share how we are advancing accessible, equitable, and high-quality care for patients across New York City. Through our Institute for Excellence in Health Equity and Disability Inclusion and Accessibility initiative, we are developing the programs, infrastructure, and processes needed to reduce barriers to care and enhance the patient experience for people with disabilities. During the visit, we highlighted our commitment to disability inclusion and accessibility as a core component of our broader health equity strategy. Investing in our nurse leaders is an investment in the future of patient care. In June, nurse leaders at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk gathered for their inaugural leadership retreat, bringing colleagues together for a day of learning, collaboration, and meaningful dialogue. Supported by the Langone Academy, the retreat provided an opportunity to strengthen leadership skills, build lasting connections, and share ideas that will continue to enhance the care we provide. We are proud to support leadership development across our health system and grateful to everyone who helped make this inaugural retreat a success.

Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform healthcare—but realizing that potential requires designing with accessibility and equity at the forefront. Recently, NYU Langone Health was honored to participate in the AI Healthcare & Well-Being Summit 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand, where JR Rizzo, MD, Ilse Melamid Associate Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine, associate professor in the Departments of Neurology and Ophthalmology, health system director of disability inclusion, and vice chair of innovation and equity delivered the opening global keynote. Dr. Rizzo's keynote explored why AI for good is more than an aspiration—it is a societal imperative. He emphasized the importance of making accessibility a starting point for innovation rather than an afterthought. By centering the experiences of people with disabilities, we can develop technologies and healthcare solutions that improve outcomes for everyone. Check out more in the link below!
