At a young age, she noticed pollution in the Nile river and knew her community and their health relied on the river, which led her to start Egypt Goes Eco. Salma plans to attend medical school for psychiatry and find a career at the intersection of her passions for mental health and climate activism. Meet Mercedes Mesman, biochemical engineering major at South Dakota Mines and 2022 Never Satisfied Scholar! Mercedes gives her all, whether it's leading her South Dakota Mines cheer team as their captain, working at her local hospital as a phlebotomist, or getting her biomedical engineering degree. Several members of Mesman’s family have congenital heart disorders, which inspired her passion for biomedical engineering. She hopes to learn to develop artificial organs that are affordable and safe for those who need transplants.
