“Carbon dioxide is a natural byproduct of the ethanol process. In our fermentation process, we ferment the corn slurry into beer. That process gives off carbon dioxide. We capture it, then we liquefy it, store it and transport as liquid CO2.” –Adam Homan, POET Bioprocessing – Portland General Manager Nothing goes to waste — that's a part of the process and our mission at POET. Along with the 90 million gallons of bioethanol produced at the Portland facility, we're able to use the byproducts from the kernel of corn to create other renewable products such as captured carbon. 🌽♻️
Behind the innovation, technology, and billions of gallons of bioethanol are the team members that make POET great. Over the next several weeks, we're going to be sharing stories from some of our team members across different divisions of POET. We're excited to share these incredible individuals with you — who they are, what they do, and what keeps them passionate about changing the world. Stay tuned to see our spotlights of each of these #PeopleOfPOET!

“We think of corn as nature’s battery. The leaves act as the solar panel, and then the energy is transferred from the sun into the corn kernels and the biomass, which can be stored indefinitely. So, the plant acts as a battery.” –Jeff Broin, POET Founder and CEO That battery — and its ability to power the planet — has a much more storied history than most realize.
