We are proud to be named one of Parity.org’s Best Companies for Women to Advance. As part of our commitment to advancing women, in 2017, we became a founding member of the ParityPledge — a commitment to interview at least one female candidate for every senior open role. Last year, we achieved gender parity in our leadership ranks, with women holding 50% of VP+ positions at the Company. Our action for equality of opportunity will continue — including addressing racial inequities in our business and industry. With our iconic Polo Shirt serving as a blank canvas, we launched the Polo Project: Design for Good competition in May, inspiring our community to create its own interpretations of the timeless piece and select the favorite one. Out of hundreds of entries, Springfield, Illinois–based artist Michelle Smith captured the most votes with her poignant illustration of her son Micah wearing a mask with the word “Hope” in the background. Her design, now available as a limited-edition Polo Shirt, will have 100% of the purchase price go toward the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization. To further honor the shirt's message, and as a part of our pledge to address systemic racism and racial injustice, the Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation is making a $25,000 donation to the UNCF (United Negro College Fund). As we close our fiscal year, one that was marked by a disruption greater than anyone could have imagined, we are grateful for the critical foundations our teams have built as part of our Next Great Chapter plan. Going into this crisis with strong business momentum—including a solid balance sheet, an agile and connected organization and a timeless brand vision—gives us confidence that we will emerge in a position of strength. In these trying times, it has become our mission to support each other—from connecting in the new normal, to protecting the safety and well-being of our teams and customers, or pledging our support to COVID-19 relief through financial aid, product donations and PPE. We mark our fiscal year end with this commitment and the spirit of togetherness that defines our business, brands and our culture.
Today and every day we stand together with our Black employees, partners, customers and the entire Black Community. We respect and embrace diversity, individuality and freedom. The horrific racism that is happening across America is deeply at odds with who we are and the quality of life we believe in. We recognize that freedom, equality and liberty — values we uphold and cherish — still remain out of reach for too many people in America and around the world. We are committed to playing a meaningful role in helping to create a world where everyone, regardless of their race, has the opportunity to create and live the life they imagine.
Supporting each other in this time of need has become our mission. As part of our $10 million pledge to COVID-19 relief, the Ralph Lauren Corporate Foundation has donated funds to a network of international cancer institutions to help provide care for people with cancer who are especially vulnerable at this time. Across the U.S., U.K., France, Spain, Italy, and Germany, our donations are helping fund critical supplies to support hospital staff and their patients. This includes personal protective equipment, testing, patient navigation programs, meals, laptops for tele-health, childcare support and more.
New York is our hometown, and a city that has been affected greatly by the global pandemic. Ralph's Coffee truck is serving complimentary coffee donated by La Colombe and baked goods to hospital workers across the New York metro area. Earlier this month, Ralph’s Coffee truck visited frontline workers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. The truck is also serving additional hospitals in the New York metro area. With this small gesture, we recognize with deep gratitude the tireless service of our local healthcare workers.
Building on our global commitment to COVID-19 relief, we are donating ~1.5 million clothing products to frontline workers and families in need through our global network of cancer care hospitals and charity networks. Donated products include comfortable loungewear and daily items such as sweatshirts, sweatpants, t-shirts, sweaters and more.
