"As we celebrate national Social Work Month and VNSNY's 538 social workers, it is important to acknowledge the essential but often unsung role that social workers play in protecting the nation's most vulnerable populations. As home care gains more and more attention as a pathway to reducing risk factors and keeping individuals safe and independent in the communities where they live--minimizing costly hospital stays and emergency room visits at the same time--the tireless efforts of social workers play an enormous role in making home-based health care a viable, long-term alternative for our underserved populations." -Dr. Hany Abdelaal, President, VNSNY CHOICE Health Plans
