Pros

Dr. Portnoy is an amazing doctor and extremely funny! He takes time with each client and makes them feel good about themselves and shows that laughter is a great medicine! He is extremely knowledgeable.

Cons

Management and co workers care more about their status than fact. The HIV team falsifies numbers, Mobile testing doesn’t work more than 3 hours a day on the mobile unit, and could care less about the client. Testing goals are approximately 600 per month. There is no time to find out why people are putting themselves at risk. The team is misinformed an out the use of universal precautions and are putting their clients and staff at risk for blood related infections. Also, each client tested is a commission payment to the tester. So, each client tested isn’t even treated like a number, they are treated like another chunk added to the monthly paycheck. Staff is not properly trained. And management sees these problems, but does nothing to rectify the issues. I do not recommend sending clients here for care.

Pros

Serving the underserved HIV population

Cons

Preying on the underserved HIV population. CEO/founder is an activist but he makes all decisions when it comes to the healthcare facilities. Since he is not trained in the medical field, he has no clue how a heathcare facility should be runned. Giving 20' to see a patient including ordering labs, writing notes, etc.. is not proper patient care. And you wonder why most patients leave AHF after getting private insurance. And you also wonder why most physicians don't stay there more than 2 years.

Pros

working for a good cause, the mission is ok

Cons

I was amazed by AHF's core values: Patient-Centered, Values Employees, Respect for Diversity, Nimbleness, and Fight for What's Right. However, after working in this organization for more than 3 years. I'm laughing so hard on those core values. TOTALLY JOKE! An incompetent team member, and never gonna respect diversity. Office politics is a huge problem, sadly no one wanted to speak up. This organization is a joke, people come and go, not surprised most of us scared of losing our job every day. No social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The higher-level management keeps pushing you to come to the office no matter what! No room for growth Low salary and you will never get a salary rise No work-life balance
