A great place to work if you are passionate about teaching
Pros
-Educated, intelligent, and intellectually curious coworkers -Excellent training and support -High starting pay with generous raises -Motivated and interesting students -Flexible schedule (you set your own hours!) -Rapidly expanding -Located in thriving, exciting areas My experience at AJ has been very positive, and the support I've received from the management has been phenomenal. The staff is relatively young and people are very open and friendly - I've made some great friends here who I plan to keep in touch with for a long time. I've never before worked in an environment that is as intellectually stimulating as AJ - it is great to come to work every day knowing that you are going to make a difference in a child's life, and the conversations I have with my coworkers are almost always enlightening and enriching.
Cons
-Unpaid administrative work -"Top down" management -Bureaucratic hiccups The more students you take on, the more unpaid administrative work you have to do. Doing 30 - 40 hours a week of lessons will lead to a minimum of 5 - 10 hours a week of unpaid administrative work, and that time really adds up. Such is the nature of the teaching profession though, no matter where you go. The management, while full of talented and capable individuals, sometimes make decisions that emphasize how far removed they have become from the tutoring side of the business. The hierarchy is also not well defined, as leaders will often contradict each other indirectly or fail to communicate between themselves.
