Pros

....Absolutely no pros to add. It is a little bit better than being unemployed but in reality is not worth the stress.

Cons

No sour grapes at all regarding this job and the role I was hired for but this had to have been the worst experience of my life. It took me a while to write up a review as I worked there in the Richmond, VA office in late 2014. I wanted to experience what other staffing companies were like and once I did I now have a very valid opinion about this company and management. First off, during the interview process they over sell you on the opportunity and the people. They create this perception like the office is a big family. They sold me on that as I am big on company culture. My very first day I found out that was not the case at all, they watch out for their own back and it is not a team environment and far from a family. Aside from the pay, matrix's and the 50 plus hours they expect you to work I have to say that this place is incredibly micro-managed. People are always watching you and they take things you say and twist them and run to management about it. Work to life balance does not exist here, they do not value you as a person and you are only as good to them as what you have done for them lately. They put zero effort into getting to know you as a person. They talk down to you, belittle you as a person and make you feel like you are nothing short of worthless. About the role itself, as a recruiter you have to be scripted, you cannot be yourself. They have you read a script "elevator speech" to candidates and despite this being low wage type of reqs that you are working, it turns the candidate off on most cases. Based on my comparisons of the other staffing companies I have had connections with and the current staffing company I work for now I can honestly tell you that there is a reason why Aerotek hires recent college grads. It is because people with experience especially in the staffing space know that this is a pyramid scheme and people also prefer not to be micro managed and Aerotek also knows the turnover rate will be high so the college grads are the only ones they can sell to about the job until they end up quitting 6-12 months later if not earlier. Bad people, horrible managers and overall a horrific company to work for. If you do not fit their culture then you need to get out faster than you came in because they are quick to turn on you. I would like to think that this is just the Richmond, Roanoke and Winchester VA offices that has a bad vibe and feel to it because those are the offices the Director monitors. I believe other Aerotek offices are a pleasure to work for who values you as an individual rather than a number and also accepts you for who you are instead of forcing you to fit a mold that they want you to be.

Pros

If you're just graduating, it's a great company to start with. Especially before you have a spouse or kids or even a dog. Your peers will be mostly recent college grads, typically coming out of majors like Marketing, Communications, or General Business. The training is good, and some of the divisions can pay out well in commissions. Talent isn’t necessarily required, as luck can play a huge role in your success. Choose your path wisely. It varies from office to office, but some have amazing Tech divisions, and some thrive on Admin Recruiting. One of the office’s largest accounts was a mortgage broker contract with a large credit union. The AMs were making a quarter million $ a year on that contract alone, and the recruiters under them were doing good as well since the criteria for the candidates was hinged almost entirely on their credit check. Good Credit = Easy placement. Other offices have major contracts with unionized auto manufacturers, so placements at those companies can be long and profitable. The some of the recruiters barely had to work to make money (even though they had to show some face time). Make sure to learn as much as you can about the nature of the office's business before agreeing to join a particular division. Also, lots of Corporate Recruiting Careers are a great fit for former Staffing Recruiters as they are accustom to a crazy grind, and will have no issue keeping up with the slower pace of corporate recruiting. 2 years at an Aerotek can get you a $20K base increase at government contractor, and potentially more at commercial companies and start-ups that offer a much better work life balance and benefits. Getting experience in Technical Recruiting may prove to be more difficult in Staffing, but can pay off when you're leaving to look for careers in Corporate Recruiting. Your co-workers will typically be Type-A's and be fun to be around most of the time.

Cons

I joined to “Help People”, I was promptly told that the people we’d be finding jobs for are the more desirable job seekers in the first place. The people can all find jobs on their own, which is why companies pay good money for Aerotek’s services. Also, that your candidates are “Cattle” to be sold. I often heard the joke that agency personnel are “flesh peddlers”. Occasionally, you actually can help someone who doesn’t know where to begin their search, so there is a silver lining if you’re a bleeding heart. The compensation is decent for an entry level position, but pay raises are pretty much unheard of unless you receive a promotion to a “Professional Recruiter” position, or become and Account Manager. The base comp is low, but a Cost of Living Adjustment is offered in metropolitan areas. What they don’t tell you is that is isn’t taxed at the same rate as your base, and you lose about the same as you would in commission taxes. Getting $9000 more a year in cost of living adjustments sounds great, but you’ll only ever see around half of that. Same with your Commissions, you’ll be lucky if you get 60% of what you actually earn. Also, you’re ineligible for commission or cost of living during your training, even if you’re making the company money. A lot of reviews state that you can make $200K+ a year, but that’s reserved for primarily Senior Account Managers. In a company of 2000+ recruiters /AMs, only a small percentage are really raking in money like that. Also, most offices start the day at 7:30am, and as other reviews have pointed out, don’t expect to leave as early as even 5:30pm without getting judged for “working bankers hours”. Lastly, be prepared to be micromanaged. Your success may not be directly correlated to your input, but your activity will be judged heavily if you’re not achieving high output. Some recruiters used to pick up the phone once a day and make a placement off that one call, others could spend days calling hundreds of people and getting nothing out of it. It can get pretty frustrating if you’re in the latter group. And be ready to have meetings, and meetings about those meetings, and meetings to prepare for the meetings about the meetings. You may work long hours, but rest assured, those hours will be book ended and stuffed with meetings.

Pros

Several great things about this company: 1) Culture- A lot of companies will tell you that they have a great culture and a great team. Aerotek stays true to these words. The company hires ambitious, motivated, and career oriented individuals that want to excel in their career. The internal team pushes each other and consistently holds one another accountable. Not to mention... you have fun! 2)Compensation- the base salary was just raised 20k to reward the internal employees for their hard work. After a year or two, you can be making a lot of great money. Several internal employees make 6 figures. 3)Room to grow- if you want to move up in your career, this company will hold you accountable and push you to the next level. The training that Aerotek provides is UNREAL. They will send you to corporate locations for extensive training, take time for training within the office, and give you any advice that you need to be successful. 4)National company- If something changes in your life and you need to relocate, the company is willing to work with you. I'm at my 3rd office in 2 years due to unforeseen events and am very thankful for the opportunity to stay with the company. 5)Largest in the industry- we have a ton of resources that provide us with some great ammo when competing with competition. I have recommended this company to several of my close friends. If you are ambitious, motivated, hard working, and want to have fun at work- I highly recommend Aerotek to you!

Cons

The hours can be hard- but they are worth it. Just like anything, the more you put in, the more you get out. The hours tend to be longer in your first year of your role....if you can get through that, it gets a lot easier.
