Pros

Nice location, nice office. Flexible, agile (for now) dev infrastructure. Snacks & soda & coffee

Cons

Poor middle/senior management, and a micromanage CEO. No career path. Turn over rate is high.

Pros

- Great growth opportunities for high performers - Can't speak for all functions but commercial leaders are strong and genuinely acting in the interests of their teams and long term company objectives - Flexible working arrangements and responded well to Covid - I think senior leadership is slowly improving and making the necessary changes as the company grows to 600+ employees

Cons

- New starters should probably not expect to be working 9-5 in the current stage of the company. Hopefully in the future there are more flexible work options but unlikely to be an option in the medium term whilst demands and pressure is high - Constant changes: if you're not adaptable and uncertainty makes you uncomfortable, then probably not the right fit. It's a company that is changing at a very rapid pace to keep up with its ambitious vision. If you are able to cope well with change, then this will create opportunities as you demonstrate your ability to work tackle various challenges.

Pros

Late start, open pantry, Friday alcohol, casual attire, some great people, awesome engineering team.

Cons

Required to use your own mobile for work calls. Expected to work long hours for much lower than industry standard wage. Expected to take calls/respond to Slack message during meetings, after hours, on weekends and when on PTO/sick leave sub 1 minute. Constant change in business direction. Lack of autonomy - micro management is stifling and having a negative impact on morale. Hire experienced staff but don't take on-board their advice. Might as well hire juniors.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you are not having a great experience at Airwallex and look forward to working with you and others to make positive changes to the office. As you are a current employee, we would also appreciate it if you would raise these concerns with a member of the leadership team, or HR, so we can address them effectively realtime. I did want to comment on a few of the items you highlighted. We do not provide phones to employees as the majority of our communications take place across modern communication channels including Slack, WeChat, email, etc. If you are required to make external calls as part of your role, a VOIP phone can be installed at your desk. You are correct in stating that there is some requirement to work above and beyond “typical” working hours and that there are sometimes changes in business direction. As a fast-growing business, we have to adapt often and are pushing rapidly to launch new products and improve current products. Associated with these aspirations is the need to occasionally work additional hours. If you feel the number of hours you are working is excessive, we would again ask that you address this with your manager or member of the leadership team. A challenge for many in our “always on” world of tech is to set boundaries in relation to Slack and emails outside of hours, particularly when working in a global organisation operating across time zones. We would recommend you enlist the Do Not Disturb function when in meetings or at home trying to relax. If you still find you are being interrupted excessively during these times, let your manager or a member of the leadership team know so we can work on further solutions to address this.
