Bleak future under private equity

Pros

The company's products are highly technical and provide for solid profits. There's a lot of opportunity for growth in new products and markets. Workplace environment is casual and respectful for salaried staff. For salaried staff not involved in day-to-day manufacturing operations, good work/life balance, flexibility, and "unlimited PTO".

Cons

Currently operating under severe spending cuts, seemingly for no other reason than to line the pockets of the private equity owners. Corporate appears to be perfectly OK with a run-to-failure maintenance strategy, causing unnecessary downtime & stress from things breaking; You can't call yourself a world-class operation with this being acceptable. Little to no support from corporate for making improvements because it costs money. Location has had several salaried staff quit in the past few months. Turnover is becoming a problem. Currently no HR staff or Maintenance management. Many hourly production workers toil for 12hrs/day, 6days/week with no end. Low morale on the floor and lots of safety incidents.

Pros

They have some tremendous, undervalued hourly employees.

Cons

If I could tell the world how horrible it was to work here, I would. They don't care one bit about the employees, refer to them as "bodies", there was absolutely zero work life balance (got better in fall of 2022). The favoritism from top to bottom is endless. Extremely high turnover. They pick and choose which sexual harassment cases to follow through with. They claim that safety is important, but it's a matter of time before someone becomes seriously injured or dies due to poor protective measures and education to the employees. Also, even though NC is an at will state, they will make false accusations and send you packing. They'll also not pay you your last paycheck and refuse to respond to any communication.

Pros

Everybody is nice and works hard, plants are actively converting to EV and clean energy products which is nice to see and has been interesting. The company has historically been emission control products for the auto industry...but there's obviously no more growth in that sector. "Unlimited PTO" and benefits are great. Company seems to be recovering from the COVID pandemic and is steering the ship in the right direction despite any problems.

Cons

Computer software is from the stone age. Not much capital given to update and maintain old equipment, if a machine goes down it can wreck the entire day and make productivity metrics unachievable, even monthly targets. Company lost a lot of talent due to COVID and that has made it difficult. A lot of newer management and office staff.
