Pros

The individual contributors and legacy staff are amazing people who care about each other and doing the right thing.

Cons

The new Technology leadership pushed out the existing CIO and his leadership team using unethical practices. Now all of the IT leadership is from JC Penny and Target. They are lying to employees about their jobs being safe all while outsourcing jobs to companies in India. 40 IT staff were severed last week and more severances are coming. This used to be the best IT shop to work at in Columbus, now it’s the worst! Very sad to watch.

Pros

Job stability. Decent pay. Average benefits.

Cons

Boring. AEP is a monopoly and therefore has no incentive to be more efficient or to challenge employees. They try, but the business model doesn't support it so nobody really buys in. The employees that stay there for 35 years do so because they love the stability and don't mind being bored. The employees that are driven and embrace continuous improvement leave. AEP could shed 1000's of jobs with no impact. They do not ride lean, they ride heavy. You will be bored.

Pros

Good insurance and time off

Cons

Oh there are so many. This company has went downhill in the last few years. Some of us older employees are just getting to retirement to get out. Others should jump ship. Every time you think there will be improvements, the higher ups will decide that the employees are getting too much and we must take something away. Loyalty is not something here, it’s who is kissing up the hardest. I have seen this tendency to just fire people who are not following along with the kissing up mantra. I see a lot of fake accounts that are trying to up the stars on here. That is sad a company has to use those tactics. Maybe make changes then to make fake posts.
