Pros

Good medical benefits & profit sharing.

Cons

I've been with Amica for a few years and although it felt like being a part of a big family before, it now feels like we were left on the street by said family to find a way to care for ourselves on our own. First and foremost, forcing people to go back into the office. They mention it's all about the "Culture" when in reality it's more about them wanting to use the building they're paying rent for & possibly the minute or two lag time when picking up the phones which disrupts their service scores. They don't care that people feel unsafe and anxious about being in the office during these times, even those with medical issues (such as myself). It's ridiculous considering other companies have adapted to the times and now offer remote options. Also, they've announced big changes with regionalization that no one is happy about. Mind you we already started handling various states months back but now they've implemented changes that force you to work most Saturdays & Holidays since the new system makes it difficult to find a replacement if you can't work it. Although they're forcing people to work in office, because of regionalization, managers are scattered throughout the states and most meetings are all virtual. Working with managers you don't know and don't feel comfortable with make it hard to speak up and there's also a great sense of disconnect, especially working in such a big company. After a few years here, I thought Amica would be my end-game, where I would retire but all these changes are forcing me to look for a different job. I'm not the only one clearly. As they keep sending out retention checks to stop people from quitting. I've already applied to a few and am trying to get out as early as possible before things get worse, which by the looks of it, will be soon!

Pros

Starting wages are decent for no college degree required.

Cons

Amica touts a “genuine commitment to our customers and employees first”. This has not been the case for at least a few years. Employees are expected to handle calls as robots. You get marked down if you aren’t pushy about selling things the customer might not need. Turnover is very high, management is refusing to allow accommodations to continue working from home even with the covid delta variant. When employees aren’t treated as human beings, that gets passed along to the customers as well. Long time customers are leaving due to decreased customer service and the amount of time it takes to get a response. We are told items will be reviewed within 48 hours but often customers are left with zero response for days-weeks. The entire company needs an overhaul with new commitment to employees. HR and scheduling departments are all based out of Rhode Island and have limited knowledge of employment laws in states such as Washington. I would not be surprised if there is a lawsuit soon.

Pros

Good benefits, okay pay, enhanced 401(k), profit sharing

Cons

The company has rapidly declined in terms of employee satisfaction. When I started, the company seemed great. Everyone was so helpful, employees seemed content with their jobs, and management was focused on your development as an employee rather than hitting metrics from higher up. Over the course of my career, the company shifted to being very numbers focused in correlation to growing too fast with no staff to service the additional policies. We started to have 7-8 reps leave in the span of 2 months, and management was like a revolving door. It felt like they were sacrificing the happiness of their employees by trying to hit ever-increasing goals set by higher up’s who have no clue what we did day to day. Things quickly declined even further when the pandemic hit, with the company desperately trying to cram us all back in the office as soon as humanly possible, despite work from home being wildly successful. I did genuinely enjoy my time for the first 1-2 years, but between what I listed above, the very rigid time off policies, absolutely no flexible scheduling, resistance to change in any capacity, and career stagnation in the branch, I made the decision to leave the company. For me, the clear sign to move on was when we received an email about a $2k bonus for any employee willing to stay until the end of 2021. When employee retention is so bad that you have to bribe people into staying, it’s best to get out while you can.
