Pros

Leaving this place and the individuals do warm your heart.

Cons

You are overworked here and underpaid and they play favorites with managers. If the manager stops liking you one day they will tell lies about you and then say they didn't say anything. To make you look like an idiot, you get paid to do their job. At the same time, they can clock in to hide and leave and start the individuals up with their behaviors and leave you to deal with it. Then still will burn you and put you on shifts if you get injured. They only like to show up as if they are doing something when the higher-ups are there.

Pros

I learned valuable skills when working with kids with developmental disabilities.

Cons

First and foremost, direct support is incredibly challenging. However, when working with supportive staff, it is very rewarding. But going further than that, it is important that management supports the work you do for it to be rewarding. At Anderson, management is not empathetic or helpful. I have worked at Anderson for the past 2 years and management consistently fails to support me. They do not understand the challenges of direct support, and have a very dismissive attitude when it comes to the issues brought to their attention. They do not take good care of their staff. They have lied about pay raises. They do not consider certain staff when working with certain kids; it's all about the ratio. If they are within census, they don't care about any other issues. I have gone to HR about issues, and they failed to make any lasting changes. I am so disappointed in the quality of care Anderson offers to their staff. For an agency that prides themselves on optimizing the quality of life of people with Autism, they need to take a closer look on how to support those who are the ones working with those individuals.
